| Noggin, think about what you really like to photograph, and take it from there. |

my favorite thing to photograph is Fall - and all the leaves are gone already.. Fall only lasted 2 weeks here. All there is left to photograph outside (second favorite) is gray skies and cornfields. BOOOOORIIIING!! *bonk!*

You're comin' in loud and clear!! The one thing you left out is the bean/cornfields are empty!! Just stubble and dirt. :-/ Why couldn't have landscape come a few weeks ago?? Some of my favorite shots were just before the challenge started.
Oh well....seems it always works that way. :-) |

What I did was enter a photo that I liked the technical aspects of, but really found no other place to use it. (I would explain that more, but it would give it away). So for me, it isn't about just taking what you like best or are the most fond of, but you could use a photo that you took during the time frame but found it to be useless in all other competitions? Just a suggestion.

| In a rarity for me, I might already have my entry and it wasn't taken specifically for the challenge. Nothing is set in stone until the end of the month though. ;-) |

I think this time around I'll enter a shot which will dazzle and amaze everyone. I'll score an 8.5 and go down in history as one of dpc's greats.
I've been waiting to do it ... but I think the timing's right.

| My suggestion is to just take photos. A few days before the end of the month take alook at all the photo's you have taken and then choose. As you take photo's for the other challenges I am sure there will be one setting there that will jump out and say "Here I am!" |

I can sympathize with ya, sometimes I just don't feel inspired by my usual haunts. Here is some advice on what I do sometimes:
first off- if you can find someone you know that likes photography also, go together with them. They might have ideas to go places you hadn't thought of, and I just find it inspiring to be shooting with my buddy - Toocool.
second- just go! and...FORGET about the challenge. (especially free study) , don't worry, if it happens it happens, if you try to force it, it probably won't happen :-) Just shoot for the joy of it (I guess you don't have to forget about the challenges totally, just keep them in the back of your mind, but don't get hung up on trying to shoot just for them)
next- head out. If you think north is the way to go, then go SOUTH. Go for a ways, and when you feel like turning left, then turn RIGHT. Go for another ways, then when you think you've gone far enough, go a few more miles. THen turn around go back to the last crossroads, and decide which way to turn, then turn the opposite direction. Then just keep going.
now- all this time be looking. (WARNING: you may have a tendency to kind of get intent on looking, so be sure to periodically check your mirror for vehicles behind you and make sure you are not slowing to a crawl and ticking people off) This is another good thing about having a shootin' buddy, they can remind you to speed up and watch the road, plus you all can cover more territory with the extra set of eyes. Also, they might see something you don't, and yell STOP.
Look for nice scenery, parks, lakes, rivers, nature areas etc. that you've never been to before. Sometimes something new and fresh to you can be inspiring :-) Some of the stuff I've enjoyed shooting most is stuff I've just come across on these adventures.
...oh, just be prepared, when you're shootin' with your buddy, sometimes you'll be like "Oh man! Why didn't I thind of that shot first, darn IT!" ...but that's ok, cause you'll do it to them sometimes too :-P
Good Luck...and just go take pictures Darn it! :-P

I've already changed my mind 3 times during the month, I guess by the end I will have to decide which one I really really like best.
This time of year there are so many subjects, the colours are great, the light is fantastic - you can't help but shoot good stuff.

Blizzard on its way!!!!!
Weather in in Yorkshire is scheduled to deteriorate towards the end of the week and we just may have our first snow of the winter by Saturday. Keep your fingers crossed for me - I've been hoping this might happen for my free study pic. This could be my final chance!

I did enter the freestudy. This is one of those shots that I really have no idea how it will score. I like it a lot, so that's why I entered it. I believe it will at least score as high as my current average (5.5449), which is sort of my measuring stick for deciding if I enter a challenge or not.
I did not take it for a challenge or the free study, but for something else during the month. I have a feeling it will be one of those that has great appeal to a smaller number of people and the rest will consider it just average. We'll see! Who knows? I might even change my mind before the end of the month.
One thing is for certain, I love looking through the free study entries. Not having to worry about a challenge theme is a nice break every once in awhile. |

| I can't wait for the voting to start! I tried something new (well a new look) and I hope it goes well. I really like how the picture turned out. I wouldn't say it was my best....but I really like it and I guess thats all that matters. |

Here's what I wanted to do, but ran out of time: show a dog walking down the street, holding another dog's leash walking up ahead of the first. The leash would be in the second dog's mouth. Both would be walking happily by a neat mowed lawn.
Since I have a Basset Hound and a German Sheppard, I think it would look cute to have the 45 lb Basset walking the 90 lb Sheppard.
Unfortunately, I won't have the time to do this, as I would need an assistant. A very patient one at that! And I don't have any with time to come over and try this out. I know it would take 100 shots...
I submitted a landscape photo instead. |

Here's a brain fart for the free study. How about taking 2 or 3 of the past challenges and mash them all together and shoot that.

I've gone for something totally different, that will probably score in the bottom 10% or quite possibly a brown contender. Why ?
I'm kinda going through a phase of experimenting and I saw this challenge a perfect way to put a image in that is very different.
Good luck to all who have entered and I'm looking forward to seeing some excellent work. |

The weather men were wrong again - at least for Yorkshire. No sign of snow just rotten rain! My chances of entering anything this week have gone out of the window! I am out of ideas and out of enthusiasm for trailing round inthe wet and cold~! Can't do indoor shots 'cos I have no lighting and I am useless at it!
I think I'm going to cry!! Or perhaps I'll just get some school reports written instead.

Pauline, when the heavy storms come the skies are just perfect for moody images. Don't give in just take a different approach. The Peak District Triptych was taken on a really horrible day - so don't give up just yet.
Mind you will have to pull a corker out to compete with the shots of the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire countryside ;-)
