I've been learning a lot on this site for the past several months and just recently became a member so that I could post some pictures in a portfolio. I'm new to photography and still figuring out some of the technical aspects of my 20D which I've had for about 6 months. I would love to get some feedback on my portfolio and will gladly return the favor to those who comment. Also, could someone explain why I can't put any additional picture in my portfolio? When I try I'm told that I'll go over my allocated file size limit. I only have about 30 pictures posted, so I assume this has something to do with the size at which the pictures were saved on my PS Elements program?? I'm somewhat techno-challenged, so I'd appreciate some help on this. Thanks! Erin

Does PS Elements have a "Save for Web" option? The images are probably pretty large and that's why you don't have any room left in your portfolio. If you Save for Web and reduce your file size, you can put more in your portfolio. You'll have to re-save the files you already have there and re-post them though.
Oh yeah, welcome to the madness... the update button is more addictive than nicotine, use with caution!!!

Hi,
I went through your portfolio, and all the images are very good, especially "autumn trees". Really liked that one. But.... I did notice something. Most of the images are either divided horizontally or vertically, or the subjects are too centered. In nearly all of the landscapes/seascapes the horizon is right in the center of the image. It divides the image into equal halves. In "mossy wall", the vanishing point is right in the center of the photo.
Now that is not such a terrible thing, but a good composition can really improve a photo. Next time you take a landscape, try moving the camera up or down. Either emphasise the sky, or the foreground. Do not give them equal space.
I hope you don't mind. We are all here to learn. Someone taught me, and I am just passing it on. Take care. |

Thanks to those of you who have checked out my portfolio and left comments. I really appreciate it. Also, thanks Palmetto Pixels for the response to my question about uploading pictures. I think I've got it figured out now. All of the kind compliments regarding the b&w portrait of my daughter were especially appreciated since she generally hates for me to take her picture. I think she might be more inclined now after reading some of the flattering remarks. This is much more typical of what I get from her when she sees me with my camera:
