Over the weekend I built a light tent for shooting at home. I have seen quite a few threads asking how to build a table top studio so I thought I would post some details of my project. I am new to photography myself so if anyone has ideas on how to improve this setup, I would appreciate the feedback.

Pictures of my tent are available at the following location.

The dimensions are approximately 26x26x26 (inches). This was built from materials found at Homedepot and a fabric store. The frame is made of PVC pipe.
One thing I like about my setup is that is is collapsible. There are only 3 sides to this tent: Top, left and right. The top is a square formed from PVC with a square of cloth super glued to the top. The left and right side are made of 2, verticle pieces of PVC connected by a square of cloth. You can easily detach these sides from the top frame and roll them up like scrolls.
The top frame also has hooks for a drop curtain (pic lt5.JPG in the collection posted above.) This allows you to easily swap out any number of colors and fabrics. You can have multiple backgrounds and quickly swap them in and out.
I have not built a lighting set to go with it (that is for next weekend.)
The total cost (including super glue) of this light tent was $28. I will post more details on parts and such later. |

That's very clever and I admire your creativity, but I bought a pro pop-up one on ebay for $10.

Man, that is a really good deal. Do you know if this is an average price?
I am looking on eBay right now with the search strings "pop up light tent" and "light tent". There a a couple in that price range but most of the shipping costs are listed between $12 and $30. |

Yeah, you seem them in that price range often. I searched "light tent" for a few days before i grabbed one at that price. Be patient, new ones pop up regularly (pun intended). lol
