How my $900 camera purchase, has now turned into $2000 in the space of 3 weeks - and doesn't include the fisheye lens that I MUST get in 2006???

Sadly, I am just finding way too much that I really have to have for my new dSLR. And I expect there will always be more I will need.

Can anyone else sympathize?

dSLR = $$$ mainly because of expandability.

$3000-5000 dollars is the eventual budget of a (d)slr hobbiest. More if your are truly serious ($5000-10,000). Even more ($15-75,000) if multiple bodies and a studio set up are needed (as in working professional fulltime).

Yeah, even without the lenses....

- Another $100 for a bag
- Another $100 for some more memory
- Another $100 for a filter
- Another $100 for the doctor to fix the back spasems from carrying too much weight :)

and on and on....

- That "IT" picture.... priceless. What do you do? The only comfort is that there are many more expensive hobbies - trust me, you son't want to know :-))

Yes, it's expensive, but you get the option to buy a little here and a little there and it is well worth it if you plan on taking photos for the rest of your life!

Another $175 for another bag that is supposed to be able to haul all my stuff and decease the pain in my back caused by the $100 bag.

or you could consider this;

a bag from Cabella's. $69.95. Best bag I've ever carried. However, you must provide your own dividers.

The first day, there was the camera, the bag, and the CF card (total cost with tax about $1100).

last thursday, there was the macro lens, B+W uv filters for each of the lenses, a polarizer, and invested in the cokin filter system (square filters, not screw ons) so I could get both a graduated ND filter, and a regular nd filter. Plus buying an additional cf card. Total cost ~ $800.

Then in january, the new fisheye lens for the 4/3rds system comes out, which I will totally have to get (and praying that is is under $1000). And I am already seeing some other cokin filters that I want to get.

A fun, but expensive hobby.
