the thick purple line over the lizards head. I believe its called CA, chromatic aberation? What causes it? I"m guessing my cheap Quantaray lens.

What lens? You have 2 canon ones listed in your profile.
I see the line..to me it does not look purple, but like some artifact created from PP work.

It looks to me as though that's due to the blurriness of the part of the image that's out of focus, as only the eye and front side of the head appear to be really sharp.

I don't see purple but I see a small bit of haloing. For the purple fringe I've had luck using the sponge tool set to desat and just removing the color from that "line" (for appropriately colored pics).

its a quantaray 28-90 macro. paid $99 for it. I figured I'd get what I paid for.

Seeing these additional samples only serves to convince me that the 'problem' here is one of the outline of the skink being blurred, due to being outside the field of focus. In these latter two examples, the outline is much sharper in the first one, while in the nose in the second one is beginning to show a 'halo' as it appears to be more OOF. Again, this seems to be the effect of an outline being blurred.
