2 photos from Alcatraz in the evening.
I seem to enjoying creating silhouettes with a light source in the background.
Is this a bad idea?

Silhouettes are a perfectly valid type of image. You've got a good start with these two. Good exposure and contrast (between the silhouetted objects and the bright background).

However.....

Both images are almost divided perfectly down the middle which makes the images quite static. This can work in some cases but doesn't seem to here.

A different angle of view may have helped make the images more dynamic.

A different angle on one of them would have meant falling off a wall LOL.
I see what you mean by static though. I tried getting closer to the old car but it resulted in objects sticking out of the car on both sides ruining the clean silhouette.
Thanks for your feedback!

Some other attempts.

You've got some good ideas.

To me the tunnel seems to work even though the light at the end is quite central. However, the tunnel leads the viewer into the image but ends at something not so interesting. Having something peering in from that end or at least something for the viewer to focus on once they get there would make the image more interesting.

The photographers at Yellowstone make for a whimsical image,

The restaurant shot framed by the two windows is interesting however there is a big blank spot between the windows. This is the brightest part of the image so the viewer is drawn there. Something is needed to break up that blank spot but not take away from the interesting shapes of the silhouette. If the guy in the hat was the only one sitting there and the mountain was draped in fog.......
