Thinking of upgrading to the 10D from a 300D is this a good move.Would really like the 5D but this is too expensive.

I think so. I upgraded to the 10D from the Rebel 300 quite a few months ago and think the 10D is a fantastic camera. It takes continuous pictures much faster and has a bigger buffer than the Rebel 300. It is SUCH a well built sturdy camera, it feels very solid and it so reliable. You can chose which metering mode with the 10D and not the Rebel 300.

All in all, I love my 10D and if you have a chance to get one for a good price - go for it! It has enough things that are nicer than the Rebel 300 to make it worth it.

depends what your reasons for upgrade are. If you want a more robust camera, with a larger buffer and AI-Servo and with a few extra features but basically the same. Sure if it's cheap enough.

Upgrade from 300D to 350xt makes a LOT more sense if money is an issue. The 350xt uses the same imaging resources as the 20D, and its performance is significantly better, especially in low light, than the 10D. If you can afford it, the 20D is a nice upgrade viz: more solidity, more autofocus points, higher burst rate, but it won't outperform 350xt in imaging capability.

Ugrade to 10D seems pointless to me unless it can be had for a great deal less money than 350xt. But that's just one opinion. If you're mainly looking for a more solid camera with a better burst rate, and the price is right, maybe the 10D does make sense...

Side by side comparison of the 10d and 300d:

Comparison

I would recommend upgrading to a used 20d if you can.

Edit: Actually, bear is right...the 350XT would be enough of an upgrade, that's probably the best route.

Just get the undutchables firmware upgrade it effectivly makes the 300D the same as the 10D, i know ive used them both exstensivly (10D & 300D)

The 10D is still better built and slightly faster. but the same quality and with the upgrade mostly the same functions, MLU, FEC etc.

The 350D is pretty cool but personally i dont like the feel of it. If you have the money get the 20D though.

I just upgraded to the 10D from the rebel, and I can't believe I waited so long. Sure i'd love to have the 20D, or the 1DsII, for that matter, but for what I could afford, it rocks. My Rebel feels like such a toy now... I had become very frustrated by the lack of features on the rebel, features which are on the 10D... buffer and shuter speed, ai servo, and metering... I'm in love.

Is the photo quality any better?

Not really, except inasmuch as quality improves through more sophisticated metering and WB and stuff like that. The sensor and its software are not a noticeable difference between 300D and 10D I don't think. I tried them both at one point; 350xt/20D are dramatically better.
