My family has boxes of wonderful color slides documenting 50 years of our family. I would like to copy them to digital media without spending a million dollars.
Thanks- JR

There are add-ons to put a slide in front of a digital camera and you can capture it with your camera, but the slide scanners are probably better.

Slide scanners can be costly. I've never had slides scanned, but you can probably go to a camera shop and pay them to scan your slides.

Any recommendations about slide scanners? This obviously does not require professional quality but as accurate a representaion would be great. Anyone had personal experience with any?

I have the Minolta DSD-III Film/Slide scanner from a few years back and it does a pretty decent job. You can have the latest model the Minolta DIMAGE Scan Dual IV for US$229.95

A few weeks ago my advisor was telling me about some sort of sheet or sleeve or something that came with his flatbed scanner that he could insert slides into and put it on the scanner bed and it would somehow do good things with them...I've never actually seen the results of this though.

My Umax flatbed scanner came with slide scanning attachment, I wouldn't recommend it. The resolution and focus just never looked good enough. I think your only decent options are to get a real slide scanner or find a place that won't charge an arm and leg to do it for you.

I have an HP scanjet 3970. It will do slides and negatives. Not the best in the world, but it does and adequate job.
