Yesterday I made a big mistake! Put my camera in the footwell of the car with the heater on while driving 1 1/2 hours to take pics on the coast. Got there and when I took off the lens cover to shoot I found that there was very bad condensation in the camera. The air was blue! Anyway rather than just watch John take great pics I carried on. The condensation gave a sort of soft focus all round the edge and funnily enough was quite a good effect on some pics!
Here's one of p2jvr I like. I might add some more later if you fancy commenting.
One question would this be DQd in an Open challenge? The effect was in camera after all!

| I hope it doesn't do permanent damage to the camera. Let us know. |

wow. i really like the effects! the cloudy halo really goes well with soft colors of the sky. and since the effects are in camera and the result of the actual picture-taking, then I think it would be fine in an open challenge. :)

Back in the day we used to use a skylight filter filmed with a doughnut of vaseline for a similar effect. This is perfectly legal in basic editing, btw; it's an in/on-camera effect, and anything you do along those lines is OK. The rules only governm what you do in post-processing, aside from the basics: single image, time-frame of shooting, original unaltered, etc.

So do I! It was the Kodak and hen we got home we put it on the radiator to reheat it ( idea being that getting it hot again would revapourise the water and then cool it slowly - the opposite of what happened when I took it out of the hot car into the cold).
The condensation all disappeared but I haven't tried taking outside again.
You never know a new camera could be on Santa's list!

| I think the effect turned out very cool! Did all of your other photos turn out the same? Hope this didn't ruin the camera! |

Some others that turned out OK IMO. I was surprised how much I managed to salvage from what should have been a disaster. Maybe I didn't get my Free Study shot but borrowed John's camera to get my tryptich shots! ( I love my husband! - I think he was even more upset than I was and even said we should go and buy me a new camera there and then. I couldn't justify that when it was such a stupid thing to do but the offer was lovely!)

very nice effect..though imho the 1st one you showed wasnt the most effective...the top left where its not so vignetted bugs me. on the other hand, the similar one with th bird in upper left is perfect :)
in fact they're all really nice..now you now what to do when you want to get a vignette in basic editing :-p

Thanks very much for your comments everyone. All very much appreciated.
Yes I agree, Kirsty that the 2nd one of John is much better. I think I'll find a way of creating this effect in photoshop - too worrying this way and possibly too expensive!
