Hello everyone. My name is Tiffany and I'm fairly new to the site. I've been looking at lots of images throughout the site over the past few weeks and there is such talent here! I'm eager to enter my first challenge. However, I haven't been very inspired lately. Anyway, today I decided I would just trying having a go at some self-portraits for the single source lighting challenge. All the images came out like rubbish and I'm frustrated that no other ideas are coming to mind.. Anyway, I did try to make one of the shots pretty in Photoshop. Here's a link to it: self-portrait. (Please be sure you view it in original size.) What do you think of it? I'm always yearning for feedback on my work, but I can't upload images here because I'm not a full member. So, alas, my images remain at my PBase. Please feel free to look around my PBase and critique anything you want.

Hello Tiffany,

Welcome.

I like the shot. May be slightly dark for some tastes! I entered this one in the "transp." contest and got clobbered! ]

Your shot is very unique. Be sure to follow all editing rules in the challenges and have fun.

Yeah, I'm afraid on the whole the picture wouldn't do too well in the challenge.

I guess I was thrown off because you said self-portrait, and it was a belly button (and a nice one, don't get me wrong) but I'd try to get a little more detail in, and just drop the whole over-processed look.

There are some good qualities to the picture, the contrast is good, and the composition is good, but the added grainyness and oversharpening actually detract from the good parts here I think.

I like This one immensly for a single light entry. I'd give you a 7 on that.

There's a fine line to how much processing voters will accept, so that's the reason I caution you against over doing it.

I like it very much but it's a little bit dark on my monitor! And taken with my favourite lens too! :) Well done and welcome!

I didn't clarify well enough - I was never intending to enter that image in the challenge. it doesn't follow the basic editing rules. the original image was out of focus so I just played around with it in PS.

This one would place well also I think. You have a ton of talent in your unprocessed photos. If I were you, I'd stick with them.

Cool. Sorry if I sound harsh, but it really is what I think will help you do well. Just my little opinion. :o)
