Check your facts folks, or read the rest of the thread in the forum. What she was querying was the unusual amount $0.03 in her account, normal commission on images sold ends in 0....prints sell for varying prices, so commission on them can have odd numbers.
Would be a shame to see this thread degenerate into yet another microsite bashing. Choices people .....freedom to choose!

I have read through this thread and i am really disgusted at what some people have been saying about other people they know nothing about.
For starters I have met Bruce and Brianna (the owners of istock) in person and they are wonderful, wonderful, people. Istock is making a lot of money but they are also spending a lot of money as well. For starters they have full time employees who get wages. Then they offer istockalypse themed events with models, and equipment to use (the last one in NYC, i paid $1 for a chance to meet other photographers, attend photoexpo plus for all three days, and work for about 5-6 hours with 5 models in different parts of the city). Also istock spends a lot of money on promotions and advertisements. They are present at almost every photo trade show, staffed by actual exclusive photographers from their site who recieve good compensations, and they pay for prime ad space in many publications. At the end of the day, Bruce and Brianna recieve only a tiny fraction of the profits, and for them its not about the money photography is something they both love to do (and they too sell images for 20c) and they are happy doing what they love to do and making a living from it. And giving millions of people around the world a chance to make a living as well. 20 cents might be nothing to a lot of people in the US but in third world countries that is a lot of money.
Please stop the personal attacks on people you know nothing about.

Thanks for the update and the background info! I figured there was a lot of missing information. |

Ok ... i am aware of the post your talking about and the 3 cents things is not for a print. You cant make .03 cents for anything at istock.
I have been a contibuter at istock for 8 months now and i only have 229 images up and make over 1600.00US a month.
you can find me here
//istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=337673
So here is the break down Istock is getting payed 5000.00 a month US for my work. And i get 1500.00 of that. So yes they get 3500.00 dollars a month off just me. Sure sounds bad. But if you look at it like this. I dont have to do anything any more. i can stop uploading and still get payed for those images every month. But every month istock still will have to pay the bandwidth, rent, maintenance, and advertising to keep my pictures there. So in short YES im am happy to make 1500.00US a month for doing nothing. even if they were making 10,000 a month off me. Because with out them i wouldn't make 2 cents on those images.
How many of you can say you make 50.00US dollars a day for doing nothing.
Cheers
Gilles

For what it's worth, by far the bulk of your listings at istock are graphics; icons, symbols, design elements, like that. They are very good, and it's not surprising that they generate a lot of income. But it's not really a fair comparison with stock photography.

sure but its all the same i get payed for a graphic just as much as one would get payed for an image.
And i have only 229 graphics where most people have over 1000 images. so yes it is far to compare the two.
My point was only that it all adds up. And you cant say that we are getting riped off wll istock owners get rich. There taking all the risk and there paying all the costs. And Im getting payed for a hobby.
cheers
