This site has done good at raising money for a few things.

Raised money for a membership

Raised money for a wildlife foundation.

Maybe if you ever need it we can help one day. Seems a lot of people here (including me) think you are doing a wonderful thing. Keep up the good work.

You should have seen the pride and joy on the face of Céline who took the pumpkin photo that received the honor of 5th place in the recent challenge. It was grand central splendor indeed. No words can express the force of visual, unbiased recognition towards our many photo-dpchallengers. Being developmentally challenged requires acceptance that is above all else desired. DPchallenge gave us new friends, pride, discovery, humour and above all support. I give my full networking support to you all for a job well done.

I was so pleased to see clictacamera in 5th place! I can't tell you how incredibly proud it made me to see this "group" rise so high in the ratings! What a great win for Celine!

I said today (in another thread), "I have learned that it takes more than a camera to make a photographer." But it does take a camera to begin....and maybe a "Donald"?

My loudest "CONGRATULATIONS CELINE!!!!!!!!"
(Hope you heard that up in Canada.)

edit...damn keyboard!

I'm confused...does the staff there contribute, or are there 'handicapped' people that are participating? I'm assuming it is the staff that is responding in this thread?

I'm assuming also that the 'handicapped' people are taking the picture, then the staff are submitting it?

--

I don't have a problem, I'm just confused.

"Developmentally Challenged", I think. A mid-sized group. As I understand it they all do pictures on their own, and the best of them get entered to represent the group. It was cleared with D&L. It's a great thing. IMO.

And yes, Donald (who runs the group) responds for them.

gotcha...what is 'developmentally challenged' -- like mentally handicapped? Like a learning disability?

Yes ... no.

Being developmentally challenged is just a matter of progression slower than the 'expected norm' (whatever that may be). That could be mentally or academically, as in your examples -- but could also be physically, emotionally or even socially.

Nearly everyone has at some areas of life they don't progress in as well as those around them, but those with an area of 'slowness' (for lack of a better word) that is noticable in nearly all areas of life get this blacket label applied to them.

It is worth noting that although there are the few stellar examples of individuals who are 'slow' at nearly everything, most are only 'challenged' in one or two areas. When the challenged area of life is all pervasive (such as learning to speak clearly) that one area affects a great many others -- even though the individual may be quite good at activities not so challenged.

For a fascinating, based-on-real-life film, that relates to the issue of "developmentally challenged", see the Cuba Gooding / Ed Harris film, "Radio". Just saw it on HBO last night. A real two-hankie film. It kept me awake :-)

Does anybody else feel that way, or am I just making too much of this?

Nope, doesn't bother me at all

I first found this group when I followed-up on a picture I really liked ( in one of the challenges. I'm glad that they have so many supporters here.

I remember when that movie came out. (Sadly, Radio's house burnt down around the release of the film if I recall.) Glenn Beck was ranting about what an amazing film it was. He actually got the coach and Radio on his show.

It was nice...(even though Radio fell asleep in the middle of the interview).

Very interesting comments. Where do I begin...Yes I am Donald the staff guy. Yes I offer ideas, well options really and the clictacamera photographer chooses and contols the copyright entries from start to finish. For example ongoing advice and recomendations are quoted directly from dpchallenger pro's at this site. Our participants now train novice parents and friend how to use the digital technology as simply as using the TV remote. Our comfortable novices just need a constant mentor as a guide. Exactly what many at this site are searching for now. We just won't all become Yoda's. With a mentor you can do anything and that's the key. Our group has many faces. TripleCTC has created and produced DVD's and clips for nurses, musicians, actors and more on a local and provincial level. As for a description of challenges our group may or may not have, I promise never to give more or less support than is require to get the job done. Bottom line isn`t that why we are here? To learn and produce great photo's with other's at a fantastic site.

There's a thought. Since their is no money involved I don't think it will be an issue.

Britannica explains well the variety of strenths and needs found within our group:
"Being developmentally challenged... mentally or academically... physically, emotionally or even socially."

This is how it is done as a team...
step 1 We print out the day's challenges to begin our search
step 2 We share ideas on what, how and where to find our subject
step 3 Hop a bus and stay alert to capture any photo on the fly
step 4 Clic what you love and become specialized in a few subjects
step 5 Spot a challenge photo or a friends specialized subject
step 6 Shoot with the camera differently and often (2hr outing ends)
step 7 Before deadline view, choose, edit and submit challenge

Entries are only submited via staff when photographer is absent during step 7. Group members give input but ultimate decisions and equipment maniputation is completely hands-on. The best part is seeing dpchallengers pride of ownership and the chance to communicate abroad afterwards within a very limited time frame. If staff did anything more the activity would be pointless.

WOW what an inspiring thread. I think it's great that DPC is being utilised in this way, keep up the good work.

I left a long and hopefully helpful critique on one of the images in the portfolio. If you need further advice I'd be glad to help.

Regards

Mr. Donald,
I see you're located in Canada...where at?
This would be very cool to have a GTG where y'all are located one of these days! :)
