Is there a way to rate a photo with out opening it I have slooooooow dial up and to get 20% it will take forever.

Nope. And anyway it would be completely unfair. So many photos look like not much at all in thumbnail, but really shine when opened up...

Robt.

Yea they look better opened it also depends on what type of monitor you have. I do not look at contrast and things like that I look at the composition. To me all the photos look good some jump out even in a thumbnail.

An snippet from the challenge rules...

Challenge Voting

Users may adjust their votes directly from this thumbnail-view page only after casting an initial vote for an image -- it is unfair to vote on the quality of a photograph based solely on a server-generated thumbnail of that image.

Thanks did not know it was in the rules. People are just telling me to comment on photos just wanted to see if I could do it faster I am a slow tapper do you have to comment on every photo or can you just vote. I want to do it the correct way.

Also many images have small (but very important) details that do not even show up in the thumbnails.

It would be neat to give comments without voting too.

You don't have to comment on any if you don't feel like it however comments are very much appreciated by most of the community.

You can do that: AFTER the voting is over and the results are posted. Call it delayed gratification :-)

You can do it during voting as well by selecting the white rectangle below the thumbnail. Once you enter your comment you go back to the thumbnail page.

I don't feel like I should tell people what they should or should not do with there photo but I know what I like and can reflect that in my vote.

You don't necessarily need to say anything about what to change in the image. You can say what you like about the image, why it works for you etc. Commenting on others photos actually is a very good learning tool for your own photography.

No pressure, just a thought.
