There seem to be nebulous rules about self-DQ'ing. It has been done before, but I'm never sure when and why it can be done. Talk to a SC person, they can help. |

I believe you can ask for a self-DQ |

If it helps in the future, I always rename my file when I resize it for DPC with "DPC" at the end of the filename. That way I can't accidently grab the wrong one. If I revise the file and save again, I delete the first with DPC so only my entry has that name.
I know there are a billion ways to sort files, that's just one. Sorry about your mix-up.

I do the opposite: I START the filename with "DPC" 'cuz my filenames get pretty long and I can't always see the whole name. Plus I have a separate folder for each challenge...

I also use seperat folders for each challenge and I put the date of shot on both the folder and the file. my filenames look a bit like this: 9Nov05FreeStudy(last 3 digits of original filename)_03DPC Is a bit lengthy, but works :)

I believe requesting a self-DQ is as easy as asking, but you have to keep in mind that there are consequences for multiple DQs, so if one of your upcoming images is DQ'd for other reasons, you could be barred from participating in challenges for awhile. (I forget the exact rules). |

yup, seperate folder per challenge over here too. I name the photo itself something like "garbage_final.jpg" so I'm always sure I post the right one. |

If you decide that you really do want to remove it, just click the "Request Admin Note" and put in that you'd like to self-DQ as the reason, and it will be done. As Strangeghost posted, a self-DQ counts as any other DQ, so if you are DQ'd within your next 25 submissions, you will be subject to a penalty, probably a short suspension.

thanks everyone... I am really thinking about it now... it's not the worst photo ever, but this is the first out take of the bunch, and the lighting is pretty bad, and there is a bit of harsh shaddow... I'm really not sure what i should do...

It is a really tough decision... if it helps at all, your situation is one of the few in which I might consider a self-DQ.
Do take the advice offered by others regarding special folders, file naming, etc. to safeguard against that mistake in the future. In particular, having a folder for each challenge, containing a second copy of your original, your full-sized edit and your resized, web-ready "final submission" is really the way to go.

Sucks but...
Let it ride - what are you losing anyway? |

Telephoto - by leaving it in you get a lower average,
but it also makes it easier next time to get your average higher!

Don't forget that while it will no longer affect your average, it will still show on your profile as a DQ, and people who view it may not know why it was DQ'd.

Actually, self-DQs are removed by default.

Well that certainly makes a difference.
I still wouldn't rush into it though - scores can change a lot from what they start at. And you might just get some useful constructive criticism by leaving it in. Learning is more important than your average.

I 100% agree, the only reason i even concidered Self DQ'ing, is that this photo really doesn't show my growth as a through this site, and the photo that i intended to be submitted does!
