Anyone know the model number of the lens hood for the EF 50mm f/1.8 I? |

Ya know, I gave you the 50mm 1.8 II lens hood. LOL Not sure if the I is the same.

What size filter does it take, 52mm? I think you can just get a standard 52mm screw-on type lens-hood (that's the same style as the HR-2 for the Nikkor 50 1.8) -- search B&H, look at your lens, the standard hood pops up.

From what I can see, Canon doesn't have or make one...maybe call canon directly and ask, that information doesn't seem to be available. Maybe someone with the I can confirm that it takes the same as the II.
Honestly, they'll all work just as good...I'm sure those standard ones are designed for certain focal lengths. That one for the 50mm is probably good from 40mm through 100 or so, then there's probably one for 100 through 200, etc...the only problem would be if it was visible in the corners while taking a picture, and that should be evident as soon as you take your first shot...in which case I would imagine B&H or wherever you buy it would swap it for you...B&H is cool about stuff like that from what I hear.

If anyone's interested, I just came across the answer...
It would appear that the original hood for the mark I was the ES-65 which is, of course, out of production.
