Hi,

I'm a beginner at this, and my school is telling me to set my lens to hyperfocal distance. (we're trying to shoot a vast landscape with the distance set to infinity)

EDIT: Maybe I should have been more specific, what is Hyperfocal Distance, and how do I use it to get a landscape shot where everything is in sharp focus?

Thanks again for helping a Noob>=.

The hyperfocal distance will be different for different zoom settings. It also varies with aperture. Once you determine what focal length and aperture you'll want to shoot at, you can refer to a chart or go here and look up what the hyperfocal distance is.

Edit:
For instance, for the Rebel XT with the lens at 100mm, f/16, the hyperfocal distance is 108 feet. Set the focus ring to that value, and everything from about 54 feet out to infinity will be in focus.
