Back in the day (more than half a year ago) someone in here mentioned the Jones Soda competition. I sent in three pics, had one chosen as a staff pick, was really excited, watched the score for a while, the competition ended, I wasn't informed I was a winner, so I kind of stopped visiting the site.
Today, I went back in for a laugh to see which of my competitors had been picked. Imagine my surprise when I saw one of my photos in the June 2002 selections!!!
If you ever submitted to Jones Soda, you may want to go in and check the label galleries to see if one of your own pieces made it and they never told you.
Of course, now I'm scrambling everyone I know to look for the Strawberry Lime sodas with my pic on them -- the odds are slim at this late date, but who knows....

I thought if they actually used your image on a label that they had more paperwork for you to fill out, and that they sent you a sample stack of the prined labels (if not a couple of six-packs). To check for sure you can do a search for your uploaded images and the "used for labels" criteria.
I snagged an Honorable Mention last Summer, but didn't get onto a label...
I actually just posted a bunch of pictures there -- If want to see how they look on a soda bottle, you can go to
Jones Gallery (there should be 12 photos in a row, counting BACKWARDS from the one listed). You can vote for them there if you like them (or even if you don't!). There's also a grayscale version of the portrait of Isaac a few numbers farther ahead... |

Paul,
That's the weird thing -- nobody contacted me at all -- double checked my contact info and it was all up to date, so it couldn't have been that. I wrote a quick letter, we'll see what they say.
I also tried that search in the main gallery to see if they listed my image as used, but they don't.
This was completely an issue of stumbling on the right place or I'd never have known. In fact, a number of the photos on that honorable mention page are in the same run with mine -- you might want to double check. (I don't remember seeing your photo, but it might have been on a different sheet -- or maybe even ran a different month.)

Jeff,
I've had similar experiences with other sites.
I just recently found out, through word of mouth, that one of my photos was selected by www.onemodelplace.com to be in the artist's showcase. No formal notification.
A while back, I discovered, completely by accident, that one of my songs (I'm a musician) was in the top 20 "Industrial" songs on mp3.com. It had been there for 3 weeks, and ultimately peaked at #5, staying in the top 20 for several months.
Again, completely by accident.
Kind of makes you wonder what else you're getting recognized for out there for which you have no clue!!

Jeff,
Was your photo on the "Contest Winners" page or actually on one of the Acrobat proof sheets for the printed labels? I have found their "customer service" to be reasonable so far...

Paul,
On this page it's in the second column, sixth image down (it's upside down for some reason, but shows a street sign pointing off into the desert). If you click on that photo, it then takes you to the acrobat proof sheet -- which has the image, and properly credits it as my work.
I've written them, and so far only got back the standard, "We received your message and will write when we can." (Fair enough -- I only wrote yesterday and don't expect a response yet.)
I'm really not all that upset -- I think this is very very cool. I'd just like to have known a bit earlier (and wouldn't mind getting a few comped labels). So, now the scavenger hunt begins to try to avoid paying the $50 for the "vanity publishing" to replicate my label on the soda bottles. (Which I'm willing to do for my "portfolio.") *grin*
I imagine they'll be very cool -- it was probably just an oversight somewhere along the line. I only brought it up, really, because I knew others from DPC had submitted and I figured they might be in the same boat -- never knowing their work got picked.

I wondered about that too, they don't send yo any of the soda and you need to be on the look out for any jones soda bottle. The labels are put on randomly, so yours could be on ANY flavor.
Just my 2 cents

I think it is cool enough (and so are they) that you can probably guilt-trip them into sending you a six-pack, but for sure they are supposed to send you some labels,,,it usually takes them 2-3 days to write back. Tell them they can send me a bottle too! I think I know one place around here that sells Jones, so I'll take a look...Congratulations! |

jeff,
i don't know if it helps, but here in detroit (just yesterday) i did infact see the "detroit" label on a bottle. so if these are in the same "batch" of labels, yours could very well be or just now circulating. i usually drink the root beer, so if i see it i'll be sure to post here.
