Pollution and adverse atmospheric conditions often cast a haze on what might otherwise be a decent landscape picture.
Are there any techniques or (affordable) tools one could use to reduce this haze in digital images ?

Skylight filters and haze filters, come in various names. Used to use 'em allt he time in southern california, haven't felt the need for one here on Cape Cod and don't have any at this time. Someone more current than I probably will weigh in with specific makes and numbers.

In PP, an application of USM with a large radius can work wonders on haze. Settings around 20%-50%, 20 (low power) to 60 (high power) radius and a threshold that works for the image.

Increasing Saturation usually helps me bring the blue out of a hazy shot. You may have to select the sky to keep from oversaturating something else, depending on your shot. Of course, this isn't legal for DPC Basic Editing entries, but outside of that...

I use this technique sometimes, but with even lower settings: 12-16%, diameter at 48-64. I've read that to use this technique the Threashold should always be zero. It basically improves the contrast throughout the midtones, although I don't really know why it works.
