Hi everyone,
I have been looking a tripods recently and have comcluded on the manfrotto DIGI series. Ive been seriously looking at the 728b and the 724b. Does anyone have either of these tripods?
How do the heads that come with the tripod work? Are they good? Is it worth spending more money for a better head?
I think that i would rather have a three way than a ball head.
Im looking to spend somewhere close to $100 (could be a little more or less).
Thanks in advance for all the help!

I looked that 728 and 724, but for my camera (300d) I wanted something a little more solid, and taller (without extending the center column) so I bought the 3021, and it's perfect for my height (6'0) and camera.. for a smaller point and shoot either of those should be solid enough, manfrotto makes good stuff for the price. |

they both seemed very sturdy, I just liked the height of the 3021.
you should be just fine if you don't extend the center too much in windy/unstable conditions |

ok thanks... i dont really plan on doing that much work in windy conditions... but i could always use my camera bag as a counter weight |

Make sure the tripod can hold up to 2X the weight of your camera. |

Also another question... should the weight that the head can carry be a factor, or are most heads made strudy enough for a digital SLR?

yes you want a head that can support 6 to 11 lbs, if you get a cheapy head your camera will wobble all over the place.
bite the bullet now and get a good tripod and a good head and you wont ever regret it.
not long ago I finally got me a decent tripod, a Bogen / Manfrotto 3021BN Tripod with the 322RC Ballhead. I love it, solid and stable

Unless you like crouching over to view all your shots, I'd really reccommend getting a 3021 or another model that stands higher. ANY center column extension brings vibration into play in a big way, and if you shoot with long lenses the slightest vibration pretty well trashes your shot.
Bogen/Manfrotto have many heads for their small tripods that will not work well with a camera the size of your 10D, especially if it is mounted with a long lens. A good, relatively inexpensive, solid 3-way head is the 3030; it's what I use. But a 3021 with a 3030 head is gonna cost 200 dollars or so.
Well-made, less-expensive tripods can be had from Slik and Gitzo, to name two good manufacturers. The manfrotto is a lifetime investment, though. They are really well put together.

I have the 724 which I use for hiking. It is reasonably stable with a 20d and a short lens. I cannot use it with my 20D and 100-400 lens though. It is not nearly stable enough and feels like the slightest breeze will topple it. When I am not hiking I use 3021Pro which is much more stable (and much heavier :-( ) I think my 50 lb dog could run into it and it wouldnt budge (I am only half serious about that). I would recommend the 724 only as an auxilary tripod when weight is very important. For routine use, save your money and get the 3021.
