How big is a raw file? And can someone point me to one or send me one. The reason I am asking is because I want to test this RAW plugin for GIMP. thanks

Your camera shoots RAW (NEF). Why not just experiment and shoot a few in RAW yourself? Just a thought, unless GIMP doesn't support the D70.

There's always RAW Shooter Essentials if you're looking for a RAW converter to use that accepts your camera's RAW files.

Josh, the size of a RAW file depends on the resolution.
RAW files generated from my 8 MP Canon 20D are around 7 MB, you can download a sample file here:

I don't know whether RAW files generated from other cameras end with .raw, canon is the only one I used so far.

.RAW, .NEF, and CR2 are all RAW files. Different manufacturers have different ways of saving these "digital negatives," but the principle is the same.

Will paintshop pro 9 support or read RAW files from a Canon 20d?

I have psp 9 at home and it won't touch RAW files !

It works with NEF files, I don't have any RAW to test with though...

D70 RAW files are .NEF

olympus cameras raw file ends in ORF and the size mostly depends on what you shoot, mine are never the same size. It is going to depend on your megapixels and the data enclosed. As far as Gimp not sure sorry

I have tried several times to get my JASC Paintshop pro version 9 to read RAW data from my 20d CF card. It will not open any RAW files. I have had a look in all the file format associations etc and clicked on all the boxes but still no joy.

Any pointers?

I had to install a bunch of updates to get both photoshop (CS) and windows (XP) to understand my RAW files. My boyfriend did most of it, but I think there was maybe one from the adobe website and then a bunch from the microsoft website. At least one of the updates was specific to my camera (D70).
