I currently own a nikon film camera and would like to move into digital.
I have two lenses that I would like to use on new camera both are for Nikon. First one is a "Sigma 70-300 mmD 1:4-5.6 quantaray 58 mm 1.5 / 4.9 ft 1:16.5" Second one "Aspherical 28-90 mmD" this was all the info I could find on lenses. I would like to stay with the nikon brand. I'm looking to take quality pictures of nature, sports, family.

are they AutoFocus lenses ? (which film body do you have? )
if they are manual lenses they will only meter on the D2x or (not yet available) D200

| Check out the Nikon D70 its very nice, and the people who have one are extremely satisfied with it |

I'm not sure what your question is...
I was in the same situation as you. I moved from a 8008s and a N75 to a D70. Nikon mount is Nikon mount, so any lens from your 35mm will work on any of Nikon's Digital SLRs. If you have a local camera store maybe they will let you mount your lens on their demonstration body and take a few test shots inside the store? |

One of the reasons I did not stay with Nikon when buying into digital was that the older AI or AI-S mount lenses were only marginally functional on the Nikon DSLRs. It was possible to physically mount the lens, but the meter would not function at all.
At least with Canon, I can turn the camera to Av and it will set the shutter speed.

Does anybody have any experience with the Nikon Coolpix 8400? I may be getting a new cam for Christmas, the review at the link below make it sound pretty good:

| Its a n75 and yes the lenses are auto focus |

| I believe they will work with any of the Nikon DSLR's but as suggested take them in to a shop and have them mount them on a camera for you to try. The body you choose will depend on your budget, $700 to $5,000, your choice. Have fun shopping! |
