Hey all...
I'm currently applying for photojournalism internships at papers across the country for next summer... (I'll be graduating from Cornell University in May). I'm hoping you all might take a look at my portfolio that I'm sending it... and let me know what you think. Also please feel free to check the captions for mistakes, and let me know and constructive criticism... THANKS!!

Check it out!

Pretty impressive! Shows variety from action shots to artsy posed shots. You should do well.

Tremendous sports action shots in particular. Proof read the captions and,( allowing for American spellings! :)) all looks fine.

Pity they are not spread out evenly over the two pages.

I am sure you will have no problem getting a position.

Welldone!

Wow... the dancers photo on the second page shows great maturity.

Fantastic collection of images. I wish you luck, but don't feel you'll need a lot of luck as your photos speak for themselves!

Hey I dig the shots. I need to do the same thing actually, I really gotta start sorting through my images! Which papers are you applying to and when are most of your deadlines? You can pm with any advice you may have if you have time, I'm pretty new to the photojourn scene so if you've got any tips for getting an internship that'd be rad! thanks - Peter

Thanks to those who've replied so far! :-)
Riponlady I took your advice, and they are all now on the same page...
BobsterLobster - funny that I took that photo just after my freshman year of college... but it's one of my all time favorites!!

Keep lookin ;-)

Talya what a great portfolio. You have a nice variety there. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes.

The only thing that bothers me is the background color of the site. I think a neutral gray color would make the photos stand out more.

Great idea... I've done that... although I can't get the very top bar to change from being blue. Thanks!!

Wonderful photos. Very well done.

I have 2 suggestions:

The thumbnails are a bit too small. Maybe more space for the photo thumbnail and less for the text (which is unreadable in thumbnail form anyway) would allow people to scan the thumbnails more easily

I know nothing about photojournalism or what you want to do so feel free to ignore. But it strikes me as being heavy on sports photography and short on event/news type of photojournalism. That may be intentional but that's just how it struck me.

Good luck to you.

looks good, 'just a few more miles' might want to shorten your first sentence in that caption. one with dancers is good, always good to get names if you can. readers/viewers like to associate with names. the one with beauty queen or the silhouette, again you should have got the name. but overall good work, i think you should find employment.

OK... a few changes per suggestions (on here and elsewhere)

saintaugust - I changed the caption completely on that image... actually thank you so much for making me look at that caption once again... because it still had participants and spectators (it's been cropped to only participants since the image was made) so that's awesome. Names are so difficult sometimes! I wish I had them... but as a general rule it is most important to have them when you can definetely tell who the person is... in both the ones you mentioned you can't... so hopefully they'll let that pass but thanks for the suggestion.

I agree with you joezl regarding the thumbs... however unfortunately I feel it will look weird to have a bunch of different sized images on the main page... and this isn't what will be sent in, everywhere I apply will actually get a cd with good quality copies of the images... so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

My portfolio does tend to be heavy on sports... it's actually where I want to end up - but I know I desperately need more news/feature and also a photo story... something I really hope to get to work on at this internship!!

Thanks so much for the good wishes...

I also recropped the horse racing photo... due to a suggestion from my photo editor from my last internship.. he mentioned that he didn't think he got to the tongue quickly enough. I personally didn't care for his crop, but looking at mine, I could see what he meant... so I tried to crop tighter... let me know what you think!! :-D Thanks again!

BUMP... one last desperate try.

I think it looks good. No major comments here. Sorry, but then again that should be a reassurance.

Thanks Cutter! Yeah I love hearing that... I need all the reassurance I can get as I'm extremely nervous!

I'm posting for anyone interested the cover for the cd that will have my portfolio on it that will be sent in for the internships! Very happy with this :-D. Enjoy.

I really don't have any comments other than to say I think your work is top-notch and any publication that gets you as an intern will be lucky indeed.

Please keep us posted on where you land.
