put in my req. at my fav. shop in Mtl. 1999$Cnd
canceled my D2x order (would have been in in 2 weeks :(
but can't justify the (in my eyes) small incremental up side of the D2x for nearly 2800$

but of course there is other ways to burn the cash i had for the D2x ....
17-55mm 2.8 is calling me ;)

NYC is a very expensive city so as I figure it...if I stay indoors for 2-3 days/nights I will have saved enough, there alone, to get the D200.

I like the way they put the ISO, WB up by the mode selector and the bigger LCD is a dream...not the mention the extra pixels and 5fps.

Woof!

btw, looks like the ISO is 100-1600

Do you have champagne and caviar for dinner every night?

Jumping on the upgrade bandwagon as well. 5 fps raw for 22 frames, 10 mp and 11 area af have me sold.

The 11 focus areas are sooooooo tempting.

that is not a $1300 dollar body. it is a 1300 POUND, 1,940 EURO body.

puts it more into the $2,400 range, US.

11/01/2005 11:59:10 AM · #83
dpreview.com says; "Best of all is the price, body-only, $1,849 in the US."

And that's probably RRP, which means street prices will be lower.
11/01/2005 12:05:49 PM · #84
D200 body only: £1299.99 / €1940
D200 & 18-70mm: £1499.99 / €2240
D200 & 17-55mm: £2299.99 / €3435

must be the european pricing only then. That is significantly more than the US price.

Isn't that always the case? :)

I think street prices will be less than that; they're probably MRRP in that table.

Lots of D100's and D70's on ebay in December...
11/01/2005 12:11:39 PM · #87
I was sold with ISO 100 and vertical grip. :-) The rest is just icing on the cake!!

and, "Magnesium alloy, Body seams sealed", wish Canon would offer weather sealing for its 5D and 20d.

You probably already know this but Nikon USA in their site is suggesting $1699.95. Wolf Camera is accepting pre orders for the same price (available mid December). Don't know about B and H and other shops.

Merry Christmas to me!

Phil's preview on //www.dpreview.com mentioned several time a price of $1699. If I needed another camera, I'd be picking one up :-)

Nikon's got it set at $1699 USD. That should be pretty close to accurate, give or take a few dollars.

I'm freakin out because this thing has got everything that the D70 lacks, that I've been wanting...extra cheese, gravy...onions...

I know this sounds like a small thing; the AI aperture ring... what a great idea including that! I thought Nikon had left all their AI customers behind.

dpreview:
"Thanks to its new AI aperture ring connector the D200 supports A / M modes and metering with AI manual focus lenses (essentially anything made since 1977)."

Everything looks great. Seems like Nikon did a great job. Only thing I would like is faster flash sync speed. I'm surprised that they can have 1/500 in D70 but not in D200.

I wonder what actually limits sync speed. Anyone?

The speed that the slit in the focal-plane shutter curtain travels at. Synch speed has to be set to allow full coverage of the sensor area during the time that the flash is emiting light.

That is true on traditional cameras, but not on cameras such as the D70. The D70 has the same basic shutter as the D100 which syncs @ 1/180 max. The D70 has an electronic "shutter" which allows the faster sync speed. With my studio strobes my D70 will sync over 1/1000.

I was so hoping the rumurs that the D200 would share the doubling mode (2x crop factor with half the MP) with the D2x were true. I see they are not so I guess I will save a few bucks for the time being. I do quite a bit of long lens work, shoot birds and such, and need the reach and speed. I guess they did not want to get to close to the D2x. Great body for the money anyway.

Actually all the crop mode does is that it focusses on a smaller part of the sensor (like a digital zoom). The only advantage is for fast multiple exposures like sports. Weather you shoot a bird in "regular" mode or crop mode, nothing changes as you can then crop the full 12mp image down to 6mp in post processing.

For what it's worth, a 2x crop factor is 1/4 the megapixels... So if you had a 6x4, 12Mp image and cropped it to 3x2, it would have 3 Mp, not 6 Mp.

3x2=6, 6x4=24, 24/4=6

Yah,,But...the crop mode for the D2x (and I guess for the D200 is already 1.5) at normal shoot. So kosmikkreeper is actually right about the "just crop it from the norm" response. Cropping from a 12 meg file to get 50% closer I actually get to keep an 8 meg photo instead of a 6 meg photo

I only go to crop mode when I need the extra speed and that is like..never :-) 5 frames a sec at 12 megapixels is plenty fast..an extra 3 frames a second and give up to half my resolution is not for me.
