The deadline is coming up fast and I don't have a photo for Stranger in a Strange Place. There are 57 entries now. I think I'd rather have a bad photo entered than none at all! Maybe one of my kids' stuffed animals, say in the bathtub, maybe in the microwave??? Maybe put the dog in the refridgerator?? That would be a strange place for a dog!! Oh wait... we don't have a dog.

I'm sure I'll come up with something really lame in the next couple of hours... Oh well

I'm in the same boat. I just submitted something I don't feel is going to do well. I'm pondering if I should unsubmit.

May the force be with you. My entry for this contest also falls into the category of "I rather sumbit something bad, than nothing at all". See you at the bottom of the list next Monday. :)

You guys rock. I got out of bed because I had a vision for my Song Titles challenge. Spent like 30 minutes on it... didn't come out as well as I thought, but it'll have to do. I predict it will do tons better than my last submission. hehe

Curious, who else used my song?

I've been pining all week for an idea for this weeks challenges. Then after spending all night thinking about what to do this morning every thing came into focus and I had two great ideas.
I set up and shot all day then finaly this evening I submitted the final takes which were entirely different from what I had planned.
And next week the voters will tell all.

I've just decided to unsubmit mine for the Stranger challenge. Let me see if I can come up with a better idea in less than an hour. Hehehe!

I posted one that isn't the greatest. I thought about doing my zebra one with all the vertical lines, but I let people know that was mine, so I submitted something else.

I believe in that last minute stuff. My "Light of Inspiration" shot was truly that, it was last minute inspiration, threw it together in 10 minutes and had it done and online in 30. Can't believe that it is the highest score I've recieved so far. Good Luck!!!

My "Christmas Time is Here" was also done at the last minute. And it is one of my all time highs.

I crack myself up! I KNEW my submission in Song Titles would not be the only one! Yay!

In about 90 minutes, I shot 50 photos, using five different set-ups. I shot my entry 10 minutes before the deadline and barely got it formatted in Photoshop and uploaded in time! I made it, though...

My Song Title photo isn't starting off too well. I'm getting a 4.3 right now with about 10 votes so far.

Here are my scrapped ideas:

Your travel shot rocked. It's one of the best black and whites I've seen in a long time. Did you use a filter? I've been poking around for a yellow or red 37mm for a bit but haven't found one. Maybe I'll have to order...

Me sitting 7.14 currently, and a landscape challenge coming up...this week's going to be fun...

Not that I'm in any position this week to be offering you specific advice, but before you buy any color filters I highly suggest reading the tutorial on using the Photoshop Channel Mixer at Luminous Landscape -- I just reviewed it today and it addresses this issue pretty directly...

Thanks!
No filters for the BW shot. It was shot in color and converted in grayscale. I then used global levels and contrast to get better range in tones. I wanted to get the lighthouse whites to be brighter, but it caused the lower left of the sky to be blown out. I did it that way for printing, but couldn't for the challenge because of spot editing rules. I have a red filter I used to use with BW film. I should dig it out and give it a shot with my digital camera.

Thanks for the encouragement, too. I got a third place here and a third place category finish in Black and White at DigitalPhotoCOntest.com today! (different photo, though).

Haven't looked yet, but the whole point of a filter is to get as much of a tonal gradient as you can into your source image...no amount of post-processing is going to be able to do anything more than interpolate and extrapolate. Better to have as much original data as possible. As the saying goes, garbage in, garbage out.
