I was considering entering this in Busy, but submitted a completely different image in Shutter Speed instead, but I was wondering how it might have done and what people think of it. I felt it just didn't have enough of the mythical "pop" to it.

I'm new to photography so I won't be much help lol.

I'm guessing it would have scored around 4.5 to 5.0.

I have no idea really though. I think it fits the the theme "Busy" really well though!

I myself am not entering anything for either challenge. I have no time to be out shooting this week. TOo much going on with our daughter and halloween and my husbands party on base. It's crazy right now!

Its not a bad image, although the birds are a little dark. I think it would have been somewhere around 5.

Thanks for responding. It is one of those pictures you want to like but realize that really it isn't that good. If I don't feel comfortable about it, then it probably isn't working. My other entry is much better.

Had you posted this AFTER the challenge, I'd probably have responded with something worthwhile. Personally, I think it's pretty rude to post stuff like this BEFORE or DURING a challenge.

I only asked about it after I had definately decided not to enter it. Maybe I should have put it in the Photographs forum instead of the Challenge forum? It will have no effect on the picture I did submit so I do not understand your concern. I am new- have I misteped on protocol somehow? Thank you for your worthwhile comment.

You kind of stepped into the middle of a controversy here; there's quite a thread running recently on the pros and cons of posting challenge outtakes while the challenge is ongoing. It's probably better not to, but you're far from the only one who's done it, and I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the image, oddly enough I had a "busy gulls" image myself that I decided not to enter for the same reason; no "pop". It's a nice enough shot, but it doesn't really have that little extra you need to do really well.

Thanks for the insight. I am now better informed. As I said, the one I submitted is so different from this that nobody will have a clue they were by the same photographer, but point taken.

It isn't so much that the posted image might clue us in to your actual entry; obviously, that isn't the case here. It's more that ANY discussion of not-entered images in terms of the scores they might have received may have some sort of an effect on how potential voters score other images that might be similar to the one you did not enter.

I looked up busy, just for my own clarification and in the meaning "fully engaged in something" is mostly what I get out of it. I don't think the image has to be action packed or cluttered, do you?

I mean, you can be busy eating and if you have a great shot of somebody chewing, that's ok by me. What do you guys think???

I have a question....and almost hate to ask it but would like opinions. For the Busy challenge I was thinking of entering a picture that is "Busy" in itself, that is if I entered it in another challenge I would probably be told that its too busy. Do you think this coincides with the challenge description? I wouldnt say that there are any "distracting" design elements (although some might)but there are alot of different things to focus on in the picture....Thanks for the opinions.

"From telephone signals to distracting design elements, there are lots of ways for something to be "busy". Do your best to represent some form of busy in the challenge photograph you take this week."

I think your right it did lack punch but minor adjustments can add alot. I hope you don't mind I took the liberty of touching it up some (actually surprised Bear didn't first, he's amazing at this) birds

I just also entered the shutter challenge when I failed to pull off my busy image. Good luck

That was my first thought when I read the description, and is one definition of busy.

Edit to take out references to the challenge.

Misguided or a bit of an oversight maybe. But rude is a bit harsh don't you think?
