I bought a Canon Rebel recently and noticed something strange when I take a picture with a high shutter speed. Specifically, when I take a pic with the shutter speed set at 1/4000, the top half of the pic is dark. At 1/2500, the top 1/4 is dark and it seems to be okay with speeds slower than 1/1250.
Any ideas what is happening? I might add that all of the pics were outdoors with no flash. Thanks for your time. |

Is the line between the dark area and the image area kind of fuzzy? If it's pretty fuzzy, I suspect the mirror is not making it up before the shutter trips.

It is fuzzy. Your explanation sounds very plausible. Thanks. |

I'd exchange the cam.
