Just bought one. Lost my earlier (just a switch one) decided to go the extra 120 dollars and get this.
I like the timer remote idea, since the day, I was taking pictures with the timer on the camera and an otter pup came rig th up to me. I point the camera at him and press the shutter release...... then blink... blink... blink... bye bye otter. |

I got one and I love it. Now you can do LOOOOOOONG exposures
B&H sells an extension for it if you ever need it, but its real pricy
extension cable
I have heard some people have made their own extension cable and it works great

I have the Tc-80N3, and love it. I use it all the time for long exposures, and if I want to take multiple exposures to stack later, I can just set up the series, hit the start button and walk away for as much time as it takes.
It's also possible to do time lapse with it, and a bunch of other creative things. I haven't really fully explored what can be done with it, but it was definitely worth the extra $$ for me.
Do remember, though, that in order for the remote to function properly, you have to have the cam set to "bulb." If you want to quickly switch to normal shooting, the best way is to take it out of manual exposure mode into Av or Tv, which cancels bulb, then just hit either the "big button" on the remote, or the shutter button on the cam. Pretty easy.

I have one, but it is rare the opportunities I get to use it in a sports setting. I may try to do a time lapse of a game or something sometime soon, but I'll need more equipment to do it properly, so it becomes a pain.

Thanks will look into it. For some nature shoots it would be very handy to be way back from the camera.

Thats good to know. The manual made it seem like you could just push the shutter release on the camera. Made me think the remote disabled the camera, not that it needed to be set on bulb. |

I have done some time lapse stuff with mine and turned it into an animated gif
Garage Demolition animated GIF
Also use it anytime I have the camera on a tripod.

I bought myself a TC-80N3 in the summer to be able to do longer than 30s bulb exposures, but it now seems with the new advanced editing rules that this kit will really come into it's own.
My question is a dumb one though.... where the heck is the off switch?! I can't find any reference in the manual so I've assumed that the 3 year battery life they quote is for constant use, but it seems silly. Can anyone help?

Nope, no off switch - the batteries last the continuous 3 years. Think of it like a digital watch :o)

It's funny how long the tricycle stayed in one place :-)
