excuse my ignorance but if the submission deadline is 01/05/2003 can i enter a photo on the 5th (which is the 6th for me in NZ)

Look at the server time. That´s what counts.

Yes you can until midnight Eastern Standard Time which is the current "server" time, which is displayed on your screen.
