I had a blast doing this shot, and I'm completely happy with the score (I don't think it deserved higher). One thing we couldn't decide was a better way to compose the right half of the shot...

I thought it was on the boring side with me (yes, that's me) just sitting there. But I didn't know what else to do. It crossed my mind to be facing more 90 degrees to the camera so you could see more expression and the reflection would be more of a "thought bubble", but went against it. Does anybody have better ideas to take this pic to the next level?

BTW, I agree the shadows are an issue. The rear lighting is off the floor and the big shadow is me while the two smaller shadows under the window are my legs. Raising the lighting might have been better.

EDIT: Whoops, called the window a "mirror". That's a no-no.

I'd like to see more of his facial expression. His eyes especially.

As it stands, it has a certain voyeuristic feel to it... I feel as if I'm watching someone watching a peep show. :)

How about positioning him leaning on the window sill angled towards the camera... Or leaning against the wall next to the window looking sideways through it?

But as it stands, this was one of my favs of the challenge. I love shots that tell a story.

I agree with the sideways idea. Straight on makes it look like you're watching this happen in real time versus daydreaming. Maybe sitting at a table in front of the mirror with your head propped up on your hand as though you are bored... It also looks (maybe because of the darkness) like the mirror has no glass and therefore there is no real reflection. This adds to the voyeuristic feel. The shadows also hurt... maybe positioning the light to the right of the photo would have put the shadows on the opposite side and they could have been cropped out?? Finally, the mirror looks more like a window to me and had I not read your post here I would have continued thinking that. That adds to the voyeur feel as well. :-) Anyway, I like it and would have given you a 7... maybe 8.

Ha, remember it is a window. This was for the "reflections without mirrors" challenge...
