Everyone is human. Ego's run rampant everywhere to some degree or another. I know my ego is inflated when I submit to a challenge - then quickly deflated most times 24 hours after rollover. ;^)

If you want to pump up someones ego - go ahead. If not, choose to ignore it. We wouldn't be members here if we didn't have some ego within us crying out for attention: "Look at me...look at my photo, etc." If you want to leave the ego at home take pictures to put in your family album. ;^)

Gimme tedious and boring please. Most of the sillyness is simply someone's ego on display.

...but in a cold, static, impersonal place, basic human needs are ignored. You know, comraderie, fun, a place to let your hair down...

There is NOTHING on this site more important than the people. Enjoying life means more than any picture, any new technique, an insight into new equipment.

Life isn't static - it's alive!

Heck yeah my ego is on display, and if in some way, I can ever bring a smile to someone's dreary day, then the display was well worth it. I choose to have fun, be silly and immature too at times - keeps the blood pressure down as a real nice side effect.

Oops - the power just went out.
Should I sit in a room with tedious & boring or a room with fun & life.
I'll take door number two, and promptly butt out now.
But not without a and to say it's all good.

I'm not disputing this but I have never seen it officially.

I know the site was started by a group of friends to help improve their photography by creating a challenge.

I'm certain that the education comes from entering the challenges and I'm not sure if now the site is aimed towards the less experienced photographers.

Such a simple, friendly concept that in a perfect world would stay just that. Thank you Langdon & Drew. :-)

Most things change with time and this site is no exception. I understand and agree with a lot of what Ron has said. In particular I dont believe people should post outakes before the challenge is over so I dont look at those threads. I am also finding it harder to vote, I have not voted in a long time and have only enterted 2 challenges since the beginning of September. Maybe the site has lost something, I dont know, bigger is not always better and this site has got a lot bigger sine I joined in April 2003. What I do know is that its still full of wonderfully talented and very caring people.

I still spend a lot of time and get a lot of pleausre from this site and hope to for many years to come.

I think the site is constantly evolving as new people come and go and as individuals we evolve and so does our photography.

Have to agree Mike, something has changed recently and I too have cut down on challenges entered. I think there has been a shift from voting on entries to trying to pick this month's fav photog and making sure he/she gets a ribbon. No gripes here, really...just seem to be a lot of over editted, highly saturated winners.

But hey, that's life and I still spend most evenings here and hoping that when I do enter a challenge, I will at least get 5.
