I don't mean to pick on you peecee but isn't this a bit backward thinking? If making it more grainy is going to " spoil it more" then why enter a challenge what is supposed to be all about grain? Grain can make an image more beautifull, in the same way that shallow depth of feild or high contrast can either be errors that ruin a shot or can be used to create a mood or effect that make a composition beautifull. Grain is a tool to use, not the enemy of all good photography.

Maybe the word spoil was a bad choice, what I mean Brennan is I am more than happy with the grainy look of the large image, but it didn't really translate at 640 pixels, hence if I added more noise/grain to the small image it wouldn't be true to the large image.
I don't edit images just for the challenges or DPC in general, As with most people's shots here if we saw the larger ones they would be much more impressive and I am sure the results in challenges would be a lot different. Back to the old size debate I suppose..sorry
Hope this explains what I meant.

In that case I can only concur. The 640 size can hide a multitude of sins, but in this challenge it made getting the grit to show up much more of a challenge. |

You must have bypassed my entry then..it is bombing big time. I think I will stick to making clear images in future.
Has anyone else got no comments yet?

I still have no comments and am still in the low 4s. I feel like going through and giving everyone 10s just to boost morale!!!!!!!

10 comments here... all good but I think that alot of people dislike grain to begin with and the scores are going to reflect that mood |

Me too. Wonder why no comments. I must really really, and I mean really suck. They are just too embarrassed for me and don't want to leave any comments. That̢۪s it.

I'm in low fours with no comments, too. Guess the usual commenters can't put on the usual "too grainy" or "OOF" comments so don't know how to improve it, just that it doesn't appeal to them. Just 1 or 2 comments to tell me what doesn't appeal to them would be nice though! |

Mid 4's with no comments. I've decided I don't like grain either. |

I'm surprised at all the low scores here. I've picked up several favourites in this challenge - I think there are some excellent shots, but I love grain to begin with! |

Low scores for me are no surprise, but it is hard to improve when you don't know what people don't like about your shot. Maybe with 275 entries people are voting first and then will go back and make comments later. (I'm hoping)... 8-)
edit typo

If an image is technically good and meets the challenge fairly well... is taste enough to warrant a really low score... I wonder what taste is worth to voters... |
