I want to get Nikon 12-24 but don't want to pay retail price for it. If anybody does not want his I'll take it. Well.. ok buy it.
I also have Nikon 24-85 2.8 that I may want to trade. Not sure yet.
Let me know if interested.

Can't help you, just eBayed mine a couple of weeks ago. Sold it for $675. I've seen several mint condition units go in that same price range. |

I loved it. It̢۪s an incredibly sharp and very well constructed. It̢۪s more a frustration with the industry as a whole, but especially Nikon.
Let me explain. First I think Nikon is doing the right thing, unlike Canon, sticking to the smaller format sensor. Look at the quality we are now getting from them, and it will only get better & better. But no one is really producing lenses for the DX format that are comparable to the legends in 35mm. I long for an 84-degree coverage lens for the DX format. My Nikkor 24mm f2.8 on 35mm film produced some of the best images I̢۪ve ever taken. Although the 12-24 covers that in the middle of the range (about 16mm) I find that I was shooting too wide a lot of the time & was having to crop. I read once that with zooms, photographers naturally gravitate towards either end, and the fewest number of images are taken in the middle of the range.
There is a reason why the 84-degree (24mm in 35mm terms) coverage lens is (was) so popular, especially with landscape photographers. It because it the closest to what man sees with both eyes open.
For now I̢۪m getting the Olympus 11-22 to replace the Nikkor 12-24. Its 89 degrees is much closer to my ideal than 99-degree coverage of the Nikkor.
