If you download a program like Focus Magic off of the internet, is there a way to save the program to a cd so that if you change computers, or have a computer crash, etc. you still have the program to download again? I'm thinking about getting it but hate to pay a lot for a program and then have to pay for it again later if something happens. |

Yup - just burn the download to a cd and you should be good to go. |

Here's what I do...
I keep the download file, along with any documentation, like an invoice, e-mail with registration code, etc., together in a folder called "Downlloaded Stuff." This folder is backed up along with the rest of my files on a regular basis, and so always exists in at least two places.
If I ever change computers, I usually take the drive my files are on along as a "slave", and also have the external drive the backup is on. All I need to do is re-install from the download file, and enter the registration code.

Oh, good. I was hoping I'd be able to do that. Thanks! |

I don't know about Focus Magic in particular, but most online software companies will issue a registration number or code, which you enter in after you've installed the program. That number/code usually comes via e-mail, and you can print it out. Then, if you're on a new computer, you just download again from the web site, and reenter your code. Though, creating a backup certainly can make it easier to recover.
Although, some do send you a copy of the software with the registration info embedded in the installation or program file, in which case you'd definitely want to make a backup copy. |

I have done several upgrades of my computer as well as my photoshop version, and was able to reinstall FocusMagic with no problem.
