Welcome back! We've missed you around here.

You okay?

well gosh..thats a sweet homecoming! :) I have to say the first couple of days in nola was distressing, shocking and depressing. BUT...its ok here..it is. We are rebuilding. Life is good..life is bad. Life is. Wine is certainly good! ;) Music is even better. Good to be home!

Welcome back Julia! Hope things start to feel "normal" again soon at home.

You may want to check in and leave a post in that other thread entitled "where is grigrigirl". Seems like we are hijacking this one!

i am drinking my wine tonight...listening to mofro (if you havent heard them, you should check them out) and I am appreciating all manner of existence. I am especially appreciating the spirit of New Orleans. This city..this place..the people...it is special. There is no other place like it in the world. Its the attitude. The laid back...appreciate the now...drink and party and enjoy... life is lived once. Life is good...the savoring and appreciating of what feels good..taste buds, sex, earth, hunting, inebriation..you name it. Life is here. Everyone needs to experience New Orleans. Its a GREAT place to be! (shattered windows, windblown trees, a landscape raped earth....nothing can kill it. Thats the true power of this place...it doesnt die...it LIVES!

Everyone should make a visit. The hotels are open. The french quarter never actually shut down. This place rocks. Support nola..support "hurricane katrina" survivors by taking a trip here and having a great time. TOURISM..that is what supports us!

Julia, glad to see you're OK. Welcome back.

I've always wanted to visit New Orleans. Somehow, I thought I had missed my chance to see it as I had heard about it.

Definitely moving this trip to the top of the list for the near future.

Nice to see your name active again Julia!!! Cant wait to see the images you are going to come up with now after the experiences you've had. I'm sure you will have even more emotion to draw from..which will of course transend into your photo's .. which of course will inspire the hell out of me :)

Did it? We were talking about the "good old days" and got a very poingent reminder that the past is past, future is unknown, and we should live in the moment.

I'd say it's very much on topic. :)

Here's how it all started...

On track? Hijacked? You be the judge. ;^)

I've been away for a couple of weeks so I'm seeing the sight with new eyes kind of but I long for the old days. This is not a rant, just an observation from someone who's been around for a while.

It seems like in the old days, the challenge would be announced and there would maybe be minor discussion for clarification about challenge descriptions. Yes somone would post up a definition of words used in the challenge description but the threads would be minimal and common sense would be used during voting. Lately, there are ungodly (please don't move me to the rant section cause I mentioned god) long discussions about what the challenge is about. Is this really healthy for the long term life of DPC?

It seems like in the old days that outtake threads would not appear before the voting period for the challenge was over. Now it appears that these threads are there before voting even begins. Even if they appear after voting begins but before the voting is over, is this healthy for the site?

It seems like in the old days that photogs would actually do research about a subject theme (especially technical type challenges) but now ask for examples moments after the challenge is announced. Is this a good thing? I think not.

Oh how I wish things would go back to the way they were and expect them not to...

Oh, for goodness sake.

Surely we can take a few posts to welcome back a much admired member who has been through six very difficult weeks.

If this is hijacking, well, let me very selectively quote from toocool:

"I long for the old days."

This being the old days when there weren't enough topics to think hijacking a thread to go on about your personal experiences was an issue then? ;)

Why is everyone complaining about a thread getting hijacked. It did but that is ok. Get over it!

This was a very good reason for the Individual Photo forum - NOW give us the choice to TURN IT OFF! And we'll be all set. JUST like rants.

So true, after all this is a photography site, why in the world we want to be forced to look at or discuss photographs !
