To those that submite to stock site that require image review and approval: do you use Neat Image or a similar program on all photos you submit? I have submitted some of my cleanest images from my D70 with no upsizing or resampling to several sites and I keep getting the response "too much noise or grain when viewed at 100%". And these are images shot at my lowest ISO and with minimal editing. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I use an equivalent program on most, but not all, of my occasional submissions.
Some reviewers are pickier than others -- over at Shutterstock there's a current batch of discussions about noise/grain and whether it's better to let the designer decide how much detail to sacrifice for a cleaner image.
I've had an OK acceptance rate at SS despite my relatively noise low-end cameras. One thing I take advantage of is the "extra notes for reviewers" section at SS, where I'll alert them if there's some reason for the noise to be there -- I suspect they're a bit more tolerant (at least subconsciously) if they know it's deliberate and not just sloppy technique. |

Thanks, I think it's about time for me to get Neat Image anyway.

I didn't use neatimage on my South Africa submissions (all D70 pics) to Alamy and all were accepted but, in our experience (our = hub, ganders, and I) the micro stock sites are extremely inconsistent on reasons for rejection and it's all rather arbitrary. What one rejects is not only accepted by another but sells well there!

I only run ones that I think really need it thru Neat Image. Most I do not use it on. And most of mine I submit get accepted at istockphoto and alamy. But I know what you mean, sometimes I get that same "too much noise or jpg artifacts" and it sure doesn't look like it to me...
Just my experience.

Don't have a lot of images online, but tend not to use noise removal software when I submit them.....only have the trial version of NI, not keen on what it does to the image (user error LOL). Have had some rejections due to noise/compression artifacts but am getting better at spotting them. Mostly upload to iStock, DT and CanStock, rarely to SS. Shooting with both 300D and Sony717

Is anyone else submitting images from a non-dSLR camera?
So far I have 71 images up at Shutterstock, with a decent enough acceptance rate; I plan to send the same ones to iStock soon.
Only the really recent ones (maybe 20) used noise-reduction software -- before that, I didn't have any.

About 1/3 of the images I submit are taken with the Sony717 General. Slightly higher rate of rejection with them, but most are accepted.

Cool ... that camera's had a good reputation ever since I joined this site.
I'm trying to use my Canon S1 IS as much as I can, but a lot of my "best" images still come from my five year-old 2MP Olympus. |

That's cos it's an old friend, and comfortable.....it's taken a while but the balance for me is just starting to shift to where I get equally ok shots with the 300D and Sony. I had to purposefully leave the Sony at home and just rely on the Canon, it was so much easier to work with an old friend.

I have almost 50 at SS all from a DiMAGE A1, with an over 70% acceptance ratio. But this is only SS because at iStock I have an accept.ratio (with the same camera) below 20% - it sucks I know!
