The Good
I was lucky enough to have one of my photos grace the cover of the local phone book!
The Bad
The directory publisher neglected to put appropriate photo credit in the book.
The Verdict
I keep my photographic anonymity intact
We now return you to your regularly scheduled DPC, thank you for tuning in.

Ughhhhhh! How frustrating! Congrats on being printed, but dang, that sucks about not getting the deserved credit! Tell the phone company to send a "correction" in everyone's bill. :-)

Were you screaming "The new phone book is here! The new phone book is here!!"? ;-)
Sorry to hear about the lack of credit - I would see if they can put a sticker on future distributions or correct the error somehow. |

The lack-o-credit was the publisher 100%.
I (just happen to) work for the phone company so I sent the publisher the final images (which just happened to be mine and no the final photo decision wasn't mine and I didn't "accidently" slip mine in - when there's 6000 people in your county it doesn't take much to get noticed).
I was thinking on contacting the publisher and charging them a per use fee for the image. When you don't get credit, cash will do :) (not really, but it would be nice)
Edit to use properish english

That sounds like a plan. I'm not a fan of legal action, but your situation warrants doing something.
Post the pic here - I'm interested in seeing it.
...plus, I'll print it out with your name on it and glue it to my phone book. :) |

JP - congrats! You're talking the Baraga book right? I'll have to check it out when I'm passing through that way tomorrow. Too bad about no credit though. Why not post the photo here so we can all give you proper credit and appreciation?

Thanks Linda!
Yep, the Baraga book. You should stop in and ask for the new book, saying how you heard the cover photo was by a big-time photographer/artiste and you need it -NEED IT- for your collection. After you ask for my autograph I'll go ask the bossman for a raise :)
I'll post the photo tomorrow, I have three similar photos here and don't remember which one was the finalist.
Funny things
1) In my opinion this isn't a great photo. A person in another office (The Decisionmaker) wanted a waterfall and this was one of the few falls pics in the running. I had a couple of others that were *much* better for a phone book cover, as did others (I did get to see the other finalists, a perk of the job), but a waterfall was wanted.
2) The publisher didn't do the image any favors with the background they chose (it's a landscape photo). Just my opinion. And they did that whole no credit thing :|
I whipped some mock up covers with the photos, I'll see what DPCNation thinks are good (or bad) by uploading the three I submitted. :)
Tune in tomorrow for the action!
You'll have a couple to choose from Ken, and you can put godzilla and woody in them if you so choose :)

The "winning" photo
The final result was "D".
Final exam:
1) Whatchya think?
a) What was he smoking?
b) Good lord what crap.
c) Why am I even reading this?
d) Keep your day job.
e) Not bad.
2) I would have chosen
a) A
b) B
c) C
d) D
e) other
End of exam. Please post your answers. Refreshments will be served after the exam. |

My order of preference: D, A, B, C
I think they picked the right one. The photo is great, by the way.
Congrats and Condolences again. :) Thanks for posting the pics. |

Not Bad - not bad at all. I want you to show me where those falls are at the next Yooper GTG
By the way....I'm not sure, but either I'm really out of shape, or I had a light heart attack after climbing up your Silver Mt. today. Seriously, had chest pain, got diophoretic, and thought I was going to throw up for almost an hour. I've climbed Sugar Loaf Mountain several times and never experienced this. Wish the view at the top of Silver Mt. was more like that of Sugar Loaf for all the pain.
I couldn't remember where the Baraga Teephone Co. office was so I didn't get my copy of the phone book, or your autograph - damn.

Thanks Linda.
I hope you're ok, you should have someone give you a lookover at work tomorrow. Really.
The last time I went up there (the sunrise/pre-color-color photos), when I came down I was weak legged and shakey. Maybe there's something in the air.
Interesting aside: The second to the last time I was there (about a month ago) was the first time I'd heard a BIG tree fall in the woods. I was at the top checking the view and heard ccccrrrrraaaaaaaaaasssssssshhhhhhhh from down below. Couldn't see where the fall occurred.
Don't forget the doc.
Ken
Thanks and thanks :) Feel free to godzilla them to your heart's content!
The reason I wasn't fond of the waterfall photo is that just about every other year it's a waterfall on the cover. Not that they get boring, it's just that they've become overdone. Not that I'm complaining, I did get the cover, it's just that I'm an opinionated polack :) |

well, they won't unles I register as a patient and my insurance won't kick in untl November 1st. I have a history of angina, so it was probably just a bad episode of that. I'm feeling almost normal again. Thanks for the concern.
Now, about the next Yooper GTG....Purple Falls? |

I'd be up for that! It's actually O-Kun-De-Kun Falls, the Baltimore River, south of Mass, on the way to Bruce Crossing, MI.
Very picturesque, two sets of falls. A short ~1 mile walk. During winter you can crawl behind the frozen falls and get a very unique perspective.
We should do another soon! |

Lets plan it!! I know there are others from the U.P. here - at least one left a comment on my Marquette Lighthouse photo. It would be a lot of fun, and a great area to photograph.
Paul and I were talking today of driving out to the Porkies on Sunday if it doesn't rain. You're more than welcome to join us.

took your advice and had the ER nurse put me on the monitor for a bit....then she had the ER doc come take a look....then they told me it appears I have had 2 (not just one) silent heart attacks at some point - perhaps recently! The ER doc tried talking me into registering and getting admitted but my insurance does not kick in until Nov.1st so I refused. He said if I were his family member he would restrain me to the cart and make me stay. Since I am not, he cannot force me. He understands my worry about the bills, but thinks I should be admitted anyhow. Oh well - I agreed to take an aspirin a day until I can get into see a doc November 1st - when the medical starts. Sounds like I'm in for a bunch of tests - yuck. Oh, and I had to promise not to climb any more step mountains for now. Hubby will undoubtedly be panicky when he finds out.
