hi,
Someone just asked me to create a new design for his business card(french cuisine). How much should i charge ? Should i charge by the hour or a fixed price? How much does a graphic designer usualy charge? Its the first time that i charge for this kind of work.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Should be at least a couple of hundered dollars. It should really be more than that. Don't forget to design the letterhead and envelopes to match the business card.

Does he already have a logo or some other mark he uses, or are you designing one for him? Makes a big difference price-wise.

Then all you'll be doing is positioning the logo and adding some text. I charge $45/hr for page layout (hour minimum). I would think you could lay out a business card within an hour.
If you were designing the logo/entire brand for them, I would agree with something in the price range MeThoS suggested, but not for just laying out a card with an exsisting logo.

Yup, layout job. I did a lot of those. My minimum fee was $50.00 for any job. Charged $40/hr, this was 6-7 years ago though.
