Would this do for noise?

It has noise in the photo, but I don't think it's part of the photo. Think to yourself "Why is the grain there?". If the answer is "To make it fit the challenge" or "Because it was dark and I had to use a high ISO to get the right exposure", then I don't think it will do well. The grain needs to be part of the story, so to speak.

need an example then? so if i bumped up the iso for no reason, exposed photo, then shot a shot where I wanted to convey old style london. like that?

Yeh that would be a good example, trying to convey something old.

I can see some of the comments now, "Looks like you took this with your cell phone".

Part of the story??? Hmmmm, I'll bet you have grain all over the place....most will not fit the "story". The winner will be the best "photo" with "grainyness to it regardless as to if it has a story or not.

I really like this one! It would get at least an 8 from me for the 'Image Grain' challenge.

I love that old building. But I think it will have to have a pretty grainy texture in order for it to do well. Just a touch of it won't work although it might be an excellent photo.

This should be interesting nonetheless. I can already hear "doesn't meet the challenge." ROFL

so are we all adding the noise via photoshop then?

Either way, whatever suits you best.

I'd highly recommend it.

For best results, look into using something like Grain Surgery that simulates actual film grain from real film stock instead of Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Noise is too "predictable" and "digital" looking; grain is "natural" and "analog" looking.

At $179.00, I don't think so, Eddy :-) That's a steep price for a shot at a virtual ribbon...

Picture submitted and ready to go. Now I just have to somehow wait 5 days to reap the rewards. How can I ever do that?!? I am so psyched about this one.

Maybe my reflections picture will keep me occupied in the meantime.

here's one I did a while ago.

You plan on being awarded your ribbon the moment the entries close and get posted up? Try TWELVE days to "reap your rewards"? Suffer, man, suffer!

Here is one that's really grainy. I did it several months ago, on purspose to look old and wistful. I entered it in another photo contest and got comments like "I don't like the grain." ha ha ha ha

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't just take a random photo and add grain/noise to it!! THINK PEOPLE!! sorry I'm being a bit of a complainer... but I'm so tired of seeing photos entered on this site that are only entered because they specifically fit the challenge (even if they don't go with the IDEA of the challenge). For instance in Wide Angle... (I mentioned this in another thread) so you used your wide angle and took some random photo... woohoo... you fit the challenge... but if the image you are trying to purvey isn't necessarily enhanced by being shot in wide angle then why?? I just hope not to see a bunch of cutesy pet photos or children photos with grain thrown on top in photoshop just to fit the challenge.

Done ranting... I hope to see some insightful images!

I had done a few sometime back...

I see it's been 5 months or so since you've entered a challenge. Is it time for us to be inspired by your photography skills and challenge interpretations?
