Well, my car was broken into and robbed this Saturday and ALL THREE cameras were stolen and all my gear (not to mention my dash, school books, wallet and stuff as well) but my question is:
Where can a get a good deal on a 800-1200$ Digi cam? I need all my equipment and a good camera by X-mas and I want my family to have gift suggestions. New-used? Brand? Meh......
No challenges, updates, pics till then. :((((((( SOrry

Freakin'-son-of-a-****&^%&%&^*#$. If you want someone to come down and do a little "looking around" I'm sure we can dig a few DPCNationeers up and find the #@^*^$@*.
Until then if I'll try to come up with some ideas for you.
Those bastards.
Sorry for the language. |

| Doesn't home insurance cover this type of thing too? If you're in college, your parents' home insurance might cover it, if they have it. |

Check your own or your parents'( if you still live at home) household insurance. In UK this sometimes covers loss away from the house. Worth investing in insurance for your cameras - especialy if you leave them in a car!!!! ( Sorry, didn't mean to rub it in!!!!)
Hope the stolen items are recovered

If you make one penny using it Homeowners Insurance does not cover it anymore.

Thats really horrible!! I'm so sorry for your misfortune. My car's been broken into a few times, but I'm in Brooklyn. The first thing we usually do is ask the neighboring shops ("bodegas". deli's, small grocery type places) if anyone has come in looking to sell a camera or radio etc. if you find someone on the nieghborhood who knows everyone to ask around that often brings results and you might get your stuff back. They are looking to sell it somewhere cheap and fast. But your a criminal pshycology major... so i guess you know that.
Anyway the silver lining may be new camera equipment and i hope this gets resolved soon! |

Man you guys live in some bad places....I don't think I have ever locked my car doors.....maybe once when I went to downtown Atlanta.....other than that I usually leave the keys in the truck......Even when I go into Wal-mart.

Not true... a really expensive keyboard I was using was stolen after a (paid) gig, this was in the pit for a musical in the local theatre.
I was totally honest with my home insurance company, and they agreed to replace it. That's how I got my Minolta 7D :-D |

| My car has NEVER been broken into. I don't even lock it. I live in a very rural part of TN. We don't even have red lights though. |

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience Sarah. If I were you, I would check out Ebay and see if anyone in your area is selling the same sort of equipment you had stolen. You can do a search for your postcode and it will bring up the results and surrounding areas. Pawn shops are another good place to check out. Did you get the police involved? If so, they might uncover something and you may get your equipment back that way.

What's a red light? We have one bliking light in the county, which is one too many.
Here, in winter, we keep our cars running when we go into stores. I leave my house door open (literally open) during the summer, even if I go on vacation, what if someone needed to use the phone? The only time I lock my car is when I have my camera and/or fly rods in it.
This doesn't help Sarah out, but it is one of the reasons why things like what happened to her rile me - I just don't fathom it.

My car was broken into when I was a college student, and my car insurance covered some items, and my parents homeowners (since I still officially lived at home, even though I was at college) covered others.
I had a Pentax SLR and a leather jacket stolen, both covered by home owners, as I recall. Auto insurance covered the radio they stole from the car by ripping up my dash (hey, it was a ford Pinto, not a mercedes.) The thieves are just lucky the car didn't explode on them!)

Same here alfresco - we hardly ever lock our doors....BUT, some creep 15 miles down the road in Ishpeming is walking into unlocked houses during the night and stealing wallets, purses, cash, etc - and the same from unlocked cars. Who would have ever thunk?
If they come to my house, I've got over a dozen rifles to choose from before I shoot their arse. Might just put the new .243 by the bedside, next to the 9mm handgun. ;-)
Sorry to hear of your loss Sarah. Check out the homeowners insurance - mine said they cover anything as long as my vehicle was locked.

Definitely check out Renter's or Home Insurance, as well as your car insurance.
And, if you don't have the serial numbers for the items that were stolen written down somewhere, make SURE that you write them down somewhere safe for the new equipment you get.
It makes it much easier to claim your stuff if it is ever found! |

Sorry to hear about the theft of your cameras.
Buy a Canon Rebel XT with the kit lense and also buy a Sigma 18-200. $1200 should cover that. You can check www.pricegrabber.com for the best current deal in the USA.

No I don't live with my parents.... I did the whole "independent thing" when I was 17 and man have I learned that lesson. My renters insurance doesn't cover the losses but I will prevail (it just might take some time). What I loved was that the crooks locked the doors when they were done..... :)Silly fools. And KC doesn't have a lot of robbers like that normally more or less just homicides. :(
Yes... my screen name tells the story of the curse.

Where in KC are you? There's plenty of thieves in this city of 1.8 million. I've had stuff stolen out of my car in Overland Park when I forgot to lock my doors. Had hundreds of CD's and a couples discmans stolen twice because of the same stupid mistake.

I guess they locked the doors so you wouldn't get robbed by someone else ;)
The people who broke into my car left a dog -- yes a live dog -- in my car. I presumed it wasn't theirs to give, so I just let it go. (Well, I didn't have much time to think about it--the dog ran when I opened the door, as I recall.)
