Well the results show me that as long as it is a "great" photo... in ANY challenge it can win even if it is tied to the challenge "by title only"

Don't get me wrong, the winners are great but to me they lacked in the challenge department. From now on I will try to take the best photo I can during challenge week and tweak the title to make it fit. Hopefully I do a little better in the contests!

I think that is a little harsh. I think the winners totally deserve to win. The challenge description shows how they meet the challenge.

"This week, let's all find cause to celebrate. Devote your photographic energies to making us feel good about ourselves and our lives.text"

All of those entries meet the challenge and then some!

The "definitve" part of the challenge description was this:

This week, let's all find cause to celebrate. Devote your photographic energies to making us feel good about ourselves and our lives.

The challenge did NOT require, for example, the photographing of an actual "celebration". It was much broader than that; essentially a feel-good free study, I'd say. For me, all of the top 10 worked well in this regard; they were "uplifting" photographs. From my perspective 8th place is a bit marginal on the "uplift quotient" but that's just me and the voters thought otherwise.

Frankly, IMO, this was a challenge that it was really difficult NOT to "meet the challenge" in...

I thought that too Robert but some comments I received was it seemed like it was a stretch and did not meet the challenge. Like I said before, this challenge was a personal opinion and not necessarily something that has to relate to "everyone". Am I way off base here?

nope Rikki11, I think you are 'spot on'. It was what made the photographer feel good about their lives, not what makes the viewer feel good. I voted on the photograph and kept an open mind as to what viewers were trying to convey about their thoughts on the subject. I also saw it as a 'feel good' free study.

When someone says "does not meet challenge" I always take it in a relative way; in this case, I'd say "well, for this voter my picture did not inspire happy, uplifiting thoughts" and let it go at that. It doesn't matter whether YOU do or not; all that matters is whether the VOTER does, ya know? I saw a distinct undercurrent there of people voting up "actual celebrations" at the expense of feel-good moments, so I guess a lot of people voted the title more than the description.

So it goes. It's an old story.

Yeah that's how I looked at it. It was a hit or miss as I mentioned in other threads :)

I'm still content and happy about the image. Time for a celebration I guess eh? :D

So it was what made the "photographer feel good". Then what if I felt that hanging a dog from a telephone pole made me feel good. Would that photo start on even par with a photo of a "birthday party"?

Thats' silly, and I'm sure you know it. As a photographer, you shoot what you shoot. You start even with everyone, no image. You make of the challenge whatever you make of it. Then the voters validate (or not) your approach tot he challenge. Even IF a dog hanging from a telephone pole makes YOU feel good, the voters won't feel quite so good bout it.

And the challenge, here, was to "make us feel good about ourselves" so the distinction is for us to make, not you.

I'm done...I'll just read the descriptions better....but...going back to the last 25 challenges, using the logic in this thread, I could have entered just about any photo in MANY of the last 25 and still had equal footing.

But you didn't enter.

That has got to be the most silly thing I've heard in a long time.

As far as the last 25 entries are concerned, much of the debate had to do with technicality. For instance, was this image a true perspective or not. However if you feel that you could have entered just about any photo in any of the challenges, go ahead be my guest. Ultimately it is what the voters give your image. Just don't question why your flower image didn't fit the challenge when the challenge was for a bubble.

Maybe you should devote your energy on this current challenge "What?" since anything goes and hardly anything will receive the dreaded DNMC comment.

You will do a lot better if you actually enter the challenge. (or do you have multiple accounts?)

I do enter some with my limited talent and have never disagreed on my minimal scoring! However...why would I have multiple accounts? I am KenSkid only!

I thought more than one person in your family may be a member and that you may have posted with the wrong account. Just going by your nickname Kenskid..I figured maybe there was a ken senior account too. I couldn't work out why I could not see an entry from you.

Nah...just me. You should be able to see my portfolio. I have a few decent shots...just no good ones for the challenges!
