I have a suggestion.
Why not have a "No Title" challenge.
Could eliminate one more source of meets/doesn't meet the challenge by letting the image stand on it's own merits.
Edit to add:
Not a free study, a regular, themed challenge, but no titles to be used.

No title, but what about description? Absent title or description it's a "free study"; that what you're looking for?

Ah, I see now. Maybe call it "Untitled" challenge? I can see the description now:
Untitled
Photograph your dog Karma creatively. Your image MUST be titled "Untitled"; any other title does not meet the challenge and you'll get a gazillion 1's.
