Nailed this fella as a walked by the stream shooting bug shots with my 80-400VR lens attached (it's good for keeping far from creepy bugs but good enough to get a close shot) then I heard a squark and when I looked up this guy was taking to the sky, he was a big bird I thought at first a heron but I know nothing about birds at all.

hey thanx.. it was a swing and snap type shot and it is tightly cropped, he got up and away so fast i bearly had time to turn around.

Depends on where your heron was shot. In North America correct, but if in Japan or Europe it maybe A Grey Heron. They are very difficult to separate. |

oh he was shot in Japan, and in a city too, its a big city with a bit of greenary on the outside with a small lake and a stream, I go there to get away from it all... never seen one of these birds wild and ive been here 8 years... lol
thanks must be a heron.

Yes that's what it is. Did you take that in Japan? We have a lot here in Texas and I love watching them around the lake. Nice catch!
Well you answered my question before I got it posted. I was asking because we lived in Okinawa 8 years and I don't remember ever seeing any Great Blue Herons there. It sure looks like one though.

I had one of those fly about 3 feet above my car one morning - i almost peed - scared me SO bad!! |
