triptych? I looked in both "how'd they do that" and "tutorials" and searched the forums and found nothing. I have an idea for a few of my flowers but i have no clue how to do this. I want to set it up as each flower being the size of an 8x10. anyone know where i can find step-by-step instructions on how to make one or have some step-by-step that they would like to share with a photoshop dummy?

All help will be graciously accepted Thanks~~Cher~~:o)

hey hey! Basically, you have to use layers to make this kind of shot. If you start by making a new file. You can specify that you want it to be an 8x10 & then select a high resolution if you wanna print it out.

Open the pix that you wanna make a tryp with. Crop, edit, etc... each individual pic to your like. Then, use the selection tool to cover each pic that you wanna use in your triptych. Edit copy the selection. Click on the new file & then paste. Select the move tool (it's to the right of the selection tool) & move the pasted pic to a place of your liking. Repeat this for each pic.

Oh yeah, you might wanna change the BG colour of the new file to one of your choice before pasting the pix. There are loads of thing you can do after you have pasted your pix & even before to each individual pic as well.

Once you are done, just go to layers & flatten it to make it one pic.

Hope this helps. Hit me up with a PM if you would like more details or help. Good luck & peace!

personally I like the flat black background, it doesn't interfer with the flower colors and helps make them pop more.

Question, you stated that you wanted each flower to be 8x10 or the entire finished image 8x10? I think rooster might have missed that or I misunderstood her. Make sure your beginning image (blank canvas) is as long as you want the 3 images to be combined plus your borders, so 8 times 3 plus probably and 1/4" on each side. That will allow you to drop in 3 8x10s and leave space. I would go with about 25x12". You could even go a lot larger and crop down later if unsure.

I want each flower photo to be an 8x10(times 3)...thanks for the help with the math..i really needed that...i sooo suck at math!

So what color BG would you do for this? Or is the suggestion to use the black as the border too?

Hey Cher!

I prefer the black BG as well as it allows the colours to really shoot out. The white pic seems a bit grey to me tho.

Did you want a more detailed email with the steps? Just PM me & lemme know.

Are you going to put any text on the border?

Given the black BG of the images, I'd first try making the frame/background from a very dark gray, like 90% black, to set off the images without a harsh contrast.

I dont think i will be putting any text on it...if i did i wouldnt have a clue what to put...heck i havent even thought of a name for it either...i just know its about time for me to learn how to do it. if it comes out looking real nice Ill prolly put it up for sale..who knows

*rooster* a detailed email would be GREAT!! i just tried to do it and the closest "layers" thing i did was a layer and then cloned the flowers in...thats not how i was told to do it(and it looked like crap and uneven) and i couldnt move it to make it level....HELP!!

Hi Cher, just caught this thread and saw what you're trying to accomplish. I have a triptych that is kind of similar that I did awhile back that might help with ideas on what to do with a black backround. I used a glow around each fountian layer and a thin line to define the edges. Hope it helps and also.

And don't get intimidated about adding text, not that it needs it but it's not as hard as you might think. I just did another one today of my sons with just a littl text at the bottom. It's just a case of adding a text layer and picking out the color and font you like. Once you do that you just use the Move tool to place it where you want it on the print. Just have fun! :-)

I saw this photo back in april
It was actualy that photo that gave me the idea of the "red, white & blue" for my flowers. I did the glow to each of the flowers already. I just cant figure out how to use the layers and the copy/paste thingy. Im such a dummie when it comes to PS but Im trying to learn step by step. i have learned a bunch since registering in april but i have a lifetime of learning to make up for.
