Isn't it important in wide angle images to have clarity from front to the farthest part of picture?...no blurring of image foreground or background.

Stupid question; just tried my friends 10-22mm canon. Wow its wide, but how are you going to tell if I'm standing 2ft away from my subject? The subject isn't a landscape or a building. (took some shots a lunch, haven't seen them on the computer yet, I might beable to tell than?)..ace

The SC discussion has been just a little less active than this thread... drums fingers...

IMO, just see what you can do with the widest lens you've got. Filters are legal in Advanced, as long as you don't overdo it. A little stretching should be OK, but obscuring major elements or creating significant distortions where there were none would be asking for DQ.

I know this will go back farther than some care to remember but when the Advanced rules were introduced we were told that their purpose was to allow photogs to improve their images, to bring our the best in them. Using a filter effect to (degrade, distort, or corrupt - pick the one that suits your needs) an image with the intent of making it meet the challenge; or to make it meet the challenge better; or in hopes of (impressing or fooling - u pick) the voters; doesn't pass my own personal test of improving an image, or bringing out it's best.

The SC does not have to make a decision on this point, so they probably won't. But I suspect that more than a few voters will have it in mind.

Totally agree, although certain manipulations have been widely accepted (color shifts, for example), and meeting the challenge isn't grounds for DQ so I don't think that's a big factor.
