Just had this idea while bitting onto my Tuna sandwich for lunch.

Would people find it interesting to have a special (members only?) challenge where we cannot vote, but there is a set jury, comprised of a selected set or all of the 10+ Ribbon Winners. Them being excluded from the challenge for obvious reason.

Alternativally, at the same time, have the rest of the community vote on the same challenge, to see how the majority of members see a set of pictures, as opposed to the 'veterans'.

In the latter case, the challenge should have to be secret so that it wouldn't affect the community and influence their votes.

This is mostly for statistical interest as it would perharps show and explain a bit about the voting pattern of the community.

any comments? Ideas?

It's an interesting idea, but if your "panel" was comprised of those who have won the most ribbons, then it would consist of those who have essentially "defined" the DPC style, as far as there is one, and one would expect a significant correlation between the mass of voters and this particular panel.

If, on the other hand, the panel were comprised of photographers who are acknowledged as fine shooters, or as "artists", but whose work does not get many ribbons because they don't fit in the DPC "mold", then you'd get a whole different set of results, probably.

It's all in how the panel is created, you can essentially skew the panel (if you desired) to "prove" any point you wanted to prove.

quite interesting Bear, as usual.

As for my personal opinion and taste, about 90% of the "Ribboners" i see is what i strive to create in my photography. Mastery of Image, Post-Prod and Lighting.

The main idea i was looking at is to see what difference (if any) there would be between a 'democratic' voting system (which is very subjective) and a more conventional voting system, with a set jury to determine scores (more objective).

The mean idea is to see if the 'best' think mostly the same way as the rest of 'us'. Does experience changes your perspective on things... and so on.
