I finally got this shot on the third day. The shot is of a low pass that is performed only once by the solo fighter. The pilot flies very low that it creates a wake on the water and is going so fast that creates condensation layer around the jet. Needless to say it made my day :)

Fantastic capture. Well spotted. The jet itself looks a little motion blurred, which might not sit too well with some, but I feel that it works brilliantly and helps to really convey a sense of motion.

Love the other shots too.

Wow, really nice shots in that gallery. I like the ones with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. BTW, did you notice that there were 2 number 7 F-18's?

I feel the same about the motion blurred. I think it gives it a sense of motion, but I wonder how it would have looked if I had froze the motion. I shot it at f9 just to make sure I had enough DOF.
I shot it with my 20d and 500/4.5 on a tripod attached to a remote just so I can shoot the same shot with my 1d handheld. The 1d shots which are on the same gallery were taken with a 70-200 and a 1.4x extender and I shot those at f6.3 at 1/3200 Double the speed of this shot. So there is less blur but still no freeze motion. If I would do it again, I would love to shoot it with a 400/2.8 wide open at 1/8000-1/16000

Ahhh...well spotted! On the practice day (Friday) they flew 2 number 7s. I was lucky to have a knowledgeable person next to me and he was the one that brought it to my attention.
