I had all my shots at Av mode. Didn;t have the luxury of shooting RAW because I know I'm quite trigger happy eventhough I had 3 gigs in my pocket :)
Most of the image I took were at f/16 and some at f5.6 shooting at ISO400. Initially I had a polarizer but with the way these guys were flying, it was hard to keep up with them and use the CPL effectively. My shutterspeeds were determined by the camera as well.
I love the fast frames and buffer of the 20D. It was also interesting to hear that obvious Nikon 12fps clicking away :)
Will post details soon. |

Okay, my numbers are up now. Actually,it's pretty monotonous reading:
Aperture 7.1, mostly at 1/500th of a second. Well except for when the Blue Angles practically hit the deck and I had to reel it in to 313mm |

Your pictures look great, Alice -- an excellent combination of skill, equipment and location. Still, I have a bad case of Bigma envy. :-)

Awwww, gee. Thanks, Phillip.
For a long while, the Bigma was my only lens (aside from the kit lens). I got really used to it. |

Hey all. Just uploaded a few of the pictures that I captured yesterday. I created a new portfolio called Fleet Week Airshow. I'd love to hear what you guys think. I took them from marina green with my Nikon 70-300mm. Here are a few:

I like them, Dave! Great job capturing some excellent action shots.
For some reason, they all seem to have just a bit too much blue/green and not quite enough red, so you might want to adjust levels or curves slightly to even out the colors. It's just a very slight color caste and one that I'm trying really hard to avoid in my own shots right now, so I'm paying too much attention to that sort of thing right now. :-) Looking forward to meeting you at the next GTG.

The air races were cool, but the Blue Angles were just stunning. Watching a four prop troop plane handeled so well that it can be made to hover in place was amazing, but didn't translate to a still photo.
But my favorite was watching them fly so close to the water's surface that vapor clouds built up in the negatively pressurised spots on the plane

There are a lot of great pictures in this thread!
I really wish I had been able to make it - I realized too late that I'd double-booked myself, and previous plans had to take precedence (it was my father's birthday weekend). It looks like this was a really enjoyable event. Thanks for posting your photos, everyone! |

This must be the first GTG where not everybody meet up but still took pictures from the same side of the city. |

Last minute decision to visit SF. Started around 12:30, reached 1:45, no parking :( drove/stopped to see some planes. finally got a parking and waited for blue angels. Wasn't at a good spot, so no close ups. Here are the few I have

yeah i think we were literally about 50' away from each other but without that DPC stamp on our foreheads we couldn't find each other. next time, we'll be more specific :) |

Yeah, there were TONS of people with nice cameras...too many to stop and ask, "Are you a DPCer"? As always, October has been a good month for events here in the Bay Area. Anyone know of other good events coming up?
