Can you guys tell me what you think of this picture? I'm doing my friend's senior portraits because I don't like the plasticky look most senior photographers do.

Thanks :-)

That's a pretty interesting portrait. Great expression. For me, I think I would've liked to see him just a smidge higher in the frame so his chin isn't so close to the edge, but not much. Just a little more breathing room. I like your unique take on a senior portrait though and if you managed to capture his character and/or personality then that makes it all the better. :-)

i agree with jenesis, a little tight at the chin.

by the way, whatfor do you use a senoir portrait?

It's a picture that is taken in one's Senior year of High School in the U.S. , presumably around the age of 18.

The problem with the picture is the background is actually a sculpture. I had to shoot into the sun so he wouldn't be glaring. Also, if I had any more space below the chin, there'd be some of his shoulders in the picture.

Senior Portraits are pictures that parents want to have of their kids in a transitional phase of their life, I guess. I'm doing it to build up a variety of pictures in my profile in case I decide to major in fine arts or even photography in college.

why? I mean, why would you want to take a special picture at that age in your senior year? (call me blonde or something else, but I'm not familiar with these things ;))

It's just a tradition more than anything I guess. It's mostly to preserve memmories so in 50 years or whenever you can say "that's what I looked like back when I was 18"

It's also a HUGE moneymaker for portrait photographers, who charge obscene amounts of $$ for three minute photosessions and mediocre results (I just got my senior photo back)

so these are not for the photoalbum (with text and stuff, not sure how you call that) you see sometimes in movies? weird. i don't think I would spend my money on things like these ;)

Yea, they normally just use a headshot for the yearbook/class photo album. The more artistic side of the senior portrait usually doesn't look good printes super tiny (2x3 cm aprox)

Also, you give them to all your friends in HS, since usually everyone goes seperate ways after high school by going to colleges and universities and such. something for them to remember you by.
