from looking at the original photo, the first thing you should do is buy the sb-600 or sb-800 (as budget allows)...

you'll be surprised how far fill flash will go.

second, what is your white balance set to? indoors, try auto -1 or if you're using the flash use flash -1.

also, most photos w/ the d70 are a little dark. dial up your ev +.3...

above all, keep experimenting...

Thank you all so much- you don't know how much I appreciate it!

I do absolutly need to practice...and I need to have patience and guts to try things. I wish I knew one other person near me that loved it too and could teach me in person (I'm a better learner that way).

Oh well, I'll just have to keep trying and keep learning!

Curves and Unsharp Mask are your friends. I use them the most in adjusting photos. Also used Variations to push the color a little more toward red, and crop.

I added some Conrast(+11) and Saturation(+10)then some USM. Needs some curve adjustment too.

You came a long way from the original but need some extra jazz.
