I would LOVE to have a Mark II. Oh well, I can't even afford to go grocery shopping this week... forget cameras/equipment. Tom, congrats on your new camera. Beautiful shots. I really love the bronze bear! Nice color and lighting!!!
I haven't done any artistic shooting in ages it seems. I feel so unimaginative. I feel like there are too many other things sucking the life out of me that I am too tired to be creative. I hope the spark comes back soon.
I think I am assisting with a wedding soon, so I am really looking forward to that!

Hey everyone! I've been in a cave lately, just kidding. I just went to Vegas and SF with Katy and took some fun photos in SF/Fisherman's Wharf. I'll post them soon either to my website or here. Sorry to hear about your camera news, Raul. That really bites. But hey, now you can look for new gear! :) You are more than welcome to try any of my lenses if you buy a Canon body.

OK, I just posted a few photos from San Francisco and one from the Antelope Valley Nature Preserve (guess which one, HAHA). I'll try to post more soon. :)
I forgot to mention that they are in my DPC portfolio:

Hey Greg,
Where have you been?
I like the Salmon Cans, although the cans look to be expired.
The Life Preserve is another good one, very artsy fartsy.
How do you like the DO lens? And where are the pics from China?

Sorry Brian, I must have missed this post. Yes, I was in view of the fires from the sidewalk in front of my house.
I see yido is proud new owner of a new camera body! Congrats. I am also the proud new owner of a Nikon D2X. To make a long story short, I did a 3 photo shoots for an ad agency in Beverly Hills. Instead of them paying me, they bought me the D2X to do the shoots. I have had it for about 2 weeks now and I love it! I am not a big fan of the full frame sensor and that is one more reason I'm really enjoying this body. I know Canon has been pushing hard on a full frame sensor "Canon 5D". I don't believe Nikon is going in that direction right now.

Hey Greg!
Nice to see you floating around! Nice photos! Do you still happen to have that MH-18 you found at that hotel?

Hi Tom!
Thanks for the comments! The DO lens is amazing. You'll have to try it one day. :) As for China photos, we didn't go afterall. And, yes, the salmon is probably quite old. :)

Hi Eric!
Yes, I should have it around the house somewhere. Question is exactly where. I had it by the front door earlier but now I'm not so sure. When I locate it I'll let you know.

Sorry to hear about your camera situation. That sucks! Sounds like your about to embark on the Canon phenomenon, Good luck with your new camera.
WOW! I have to make sure I check this thread at least once a day to find out what I can get for free! LOL
Thanks for the offer Raul, but I'm not sure what I would do with 3 chargers. I only have two of EN-EL3 batteries. If I took it off your hands it probably would not get much use.
Thanks for the offer!

Eric,
Congrats on the D2X, it's a very sexy camera. I held it once at Samy's and that thing is sweet. I think it feel better in the hand than my 1D II N. If I was getting into a pro body without having any lens, I'd consider the D2X over the 1D series.

lol is that meant for me?.. I'm a little dense.. :) But I've done the Nikon thing.. its time for the Canon thing now.. I guess..
Still an option but the glass is more expensive and a little less to choose from on the Nikkor end that is more 3rd party.
Then again Tom you've always said some 3rd party glass is just as good as L-glass. And with your growing library of glass I'll take your word for it. :)

Wow Eric, just noticed the D2X under your name... congrats! That's one sweet machine.
Looks like a few of us have "upgrade fever." I know I'm in for a long dry spell after my recent purchases, LOl... well, at least until after the New Year.
Raul, are you comin' over to the "dark side?" What are you considering??

Hey Fritz,
Congrats on your new camera! Are you enjoying the full frame? I have mixed feelings about it. I think right now, the x1.5 fits my style of shooting not to mention, I don't think Nikon has any intentions on entering the full frame arena at this time.
EDIT: Hey Fritz,
I noticed you said "purchases" what else to you get? I see the "Tamron AF 19-35mm" is that new? I also have that lens. What do you think of it?

Hi Eric,
Yes, I love the full frame view! I've been discussing Nikon's future direction with my boss, whose a lifelong Nikonian (still a film guy tho). Our opinion is that at some point Nikon may be forced to reconsider 1.5-crop as their only path. That seemed more certain until Kodak dropped their FF DSLR offerings, leaving Canon alone in the field. The 5D ups the ante again though, and I feel that eventually Nikon will be forced to go there too.
I think the cropped cams are best when mated with lenses designed for a smaller image circle, reaping the benefits of size/weight that the smaller format implies is possible. Still there will always be a place for FF, for those of us who want to schlep heavier gear, LOL. In the end, both formats have advantages, and I think both will flourish.

Ah, the old FF vs. Cropped sensor debate.
I guess I'll throw my two cents in.
The reason cropped sensor was produced was due to high price of the sensors. As prices drop, a full frame sensor will become cheaper to produce. I hear Canon is moving toward FF for all except the intro dSLR (Rebel line). I fear that the 20D's replacement is the 5D or will be a defeatured 5D with a full frame, leaving the XT as the only cropped sensor dSLR in the line up when the 1D MIIN and the 1DsMII is again merged into a 1D Mark III.
Now my question is this. Given that the price is about same, who is going to buy a small or a "cropped" sensor, when a "full" size sensor is available. They also offer more MP's and you know how the average consumer thinks more MP's better the picture, right?
I think if others don't join in, Canon will have the whole market to itself and lots of profit. The digicam market is saturated and profit margins are slim. The new growing market is the dSLR area. More you can distinguish yourself and offer a higher priced (higher profit) prodcut, the better you'll do. I think others will have to either fight amongst themselves with cropped sensors or join the leader in cameras (Canon) and produce "full" frame sensor.
My personal feeling is that both systems offer benefits. For people who like to shoot at the tele end of things, the cropped sensor has advantages. For those who shoot mainly wide, a FF has advantages. For me, I don't need or want a FF camera with 10+MP sensor (too much storage demands), I like the extra reach I get with "cropped" sensors, so I've one with 1.3 and a 1.6 crop. I don't see myself moving up to a FF unless I need a new camera and can't find another onew with 1.3ish crop.

Sounds like my current line of thinking right now.. though I would kind of like an 8-10 mp or so eventually, because I often find myself cropping into my picture. And since thumbnails always look better than the real thing, I figure that must apply in some way or another to more megapixels resulting in generally better quality? I'm probably off a bit in this thinking.
And of course, if someone was to just hand me a 5D, I guess I'd accept it :)

Wow, everyone is getting new cameras! I still haven't gotten the full use out of my 20D yet! My lenses are crap, but thanks to Tom for letting me borrow a nice one, I have taken some great photos with it. I need more lenses, but alas, I am piss poor. I am hoping to win the lotto, and when I do... look out world!
In the meantime, I want to put another meet-up on the boards. I think we should all get together soon. Are any of you going to the Day of the Dead Festival at Hollywood Forever by the way? I'll be there :)
Miss you all,
Arie

When and where is that?
I might be interested. This weekend I'm going to the Grand St. Festival on Sat. and back to Huntington to shoot the new conservatory.
Let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi Arie, here's an idea for November. The Monarch butterflies should be migrating to a few select sites on the west coast. Point Mugu State Park, a bit beyond Malibu, gets millions of butterflies in the fall. So we should keep an eye on the news that they have arrived and make a day of it. In past years I've seen news reports with thousands of butterflies on each tree in that area.
